It feels like old man winter has finally lost his grip. It’s been a long time coming, and we desperately needed the precipitation, but crocus and daffodils are up and bloomed, the grass I’d greening, and my bride had me staining the flower bed boxes. Makes me FEEL what John Denver must have felt when he wrote Sunshine on My Shoulders. I love winter but I’m ready for some spring too. The robins showed up a few weeks back and must have felt they’d lost their minds. I felt so sorry for them I put some suet out to hold ‘em over. Currently some scratching at my door revealed a pair of rose finches building a nest in our “welcome” wreath. It’s fun watching them work but my bride has forbidden use of my front door until they are done nesting. I guess we use the garage access more ths. Half the time anyway. Yesterday I broke out the Stihl and processed some cottonwood logs that I’ll rough turn into bowl shapes to be finished later after they’ve dried and settled. Felt so good to make some sawdust and I will tackle some massive Ash in a few days. I plan on using some of that to make longer lathe tool handles for my son and a few French rolling pins for some daughters. Might be great to make a new mallet to replace the beat-up original. One of my grandsons had a birthday yesterday and asked when we were going “damping”. Yeah buddy it’s time.

Between you and Nero, really hating suburban Southern 'lifestyle'. Time to move on from this facade.

it’s been too long since I’ve listened to or played that tune. Love Don McLean.

DR Harris Windsor was released in 2012 so it’s not an old scent but is sure is a classic. Citrus top and a super cedar middle. My goodness I could bath in this. My bride often comes into my office and while glancing at my growing scent collection, “why can’t you ever get scents that smell good”? Granted, I have juice that is for me alone. Just got a bottle of Darkfall EdP which she dismisses. But I uncork the Windsor and she remembers that I have some really amazing scents in the glass menagerie. And there is some sort of master zen happening when bristles hit a hard puck. My statement of winter being over is a mixed bag. Lots of streams are in flood and it’ll be warm again today. Usually the “low snow” is gone by now but I was just up on the bench behind my home and the road to Blacktail, opened by a rotary plow, has drifts over 8 ft. It’s going to be a big run off spring for certain BUT, headed to the cabin this weekend for a planning meeting and snow is forecast so cool temps coming. The elk and deer are glad to get some green though!
