After dealing with razor burn all day yesterday, i decided today was a No Shave day.  Plus, I have a package arriving from Pasteur's today (thanks Dave in KY for that review/tip on Birth of the Cool) so a couple days growth for tomorrow's shave will be more appreciated

Hey Dave, I held off on watching your video today until I had a chance to get home and smell Birth of Cool.  I didn't want any of your comments to bias my opinion.  But, lo and behold, we have very similar takes on the scent.  The tobacco leaf and rum are the two scents that come through most prominently.  But there is a strong "sweetness" I wasn't anticipating and I wonder if that's the dried fruit or vanilla bean. 

It really is a unique scent.  But for anyone who has Moon Soaps Tobacco Leaf (a fantastic scent), Birth of Cool is a sweeter version of MS Tobacco Leaf.

In an early episode of Lather Talk, Dennis, the mastermind behind the Spearhead Shaving Company, revealed the origin of his company’s name. As it turns out, he took his inspiration from his grandfather's unit in World War II – the 3rd Battalion, 33rd Armored Regiment, Third Armored Division, famously known as the "Spearhead." Having landed in Normandy in June of 1944, this formidable unit saw plenty of action as they relentlessly raced towards Germany, culminating in their pivotal role in the Battle of the Bulge. Spearheading the charge, they fearlessly broke through enemy lines, halting the German encirclement and paving the way for the Allies' ultimate victory.

But for Dennis, the Spearhead legacy was much more than a historical footnote. It was a tangible connection to his past and a desire to capture the essence of what it meant to be a man in the 1940s and 1950s. This led him to resurrect the defunct Seaforth! label, a brand he believes his grandfather may have used during and after the war, thus reviving its timeless appeal for a new generation of shavers.

Men of the Spearhead Division, faces blackened for night combat, celebrate a victory with a box of rations. Makes you wonder what sort of shaving soap was tucked into their kit.
