Three days is the right spell to remain committed to a single soap. The first two days are filled with eagerness and enthusiasm, as one embarks on the exciting journey of mastering a new soap. And day three presents the opportunity to solidify the knowledge gained from previous shaves. But, as with so many precious things in life – whether houseguests or seafood – the novelty of a soap tends to lose its charm after three days. So, let’s stick to a single soap for no more than half a week, and not a day more.
And now a word or two about today’s lather. After spending three days with Barrister & Mann ultra-dense omnibus soap, I found Garibaldi’s wispy vegan lather something of a disappointment. The scent, too, is very mild, reminding me of nothing more than a whiff of caramel. None too slick, the lather gave adequate protection from my mild disposable razor, but I would hesitate to bring anything too aggressive to my cheeks. Nevertheless, and almost surprisingly, the shave was close and comfortable, leaving my hide smooth and unscathed. I’m actually looking forward to a few more shaves with Garibaldi, even though, judging by his picture, all he shaved was his eyebrows.

One of the world's greatest and most prolific revolutionaries surely deserves a better eponymous soap. Garibaldi was a man of honour renown in Brasil, Uruguay and Italy as a father of their nations. Many forget that Italy, as a nation, is a relatively recent construct.
Too bad Abbate y La Mantia failed to deliver a product befitting the man's greatness.
