A single week using the same soap is as much as my constitution can withstand, or so it seems for now. My infatuation with Windsor was abruptly dashed this morning when I put it onto the scale. Despite being subject to a variety of brushes and a thousand swirls over the course of seven days, the mass of the soap decreased by a mere gram, leaving me to conclude that I would be lathering this soap for at least the next year and a half. Eventually I hope to work my way through one soap in a series of consecutive shaves, but for now it appears I require one that dwindles away more quickly. And so I take up a new soap. Why Arctique? I’m reading the journals of the great polar explorers: Scott, Shackleton, Wilson, and Cherry-Garrard. This soap’s blast of skin-pinching menthol transports me to a chilly ice shelf confronting the ferocious antarctic gales.
