Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Windsor (D.R. Harris) vetiver cologne
Shave 31 ・ 87 g left

After a week of rigorous trial and error, I’ve finally mastered the art of lathering Windsor. That's very gratifying. It takes me three hundred swirls with my synthetic brush to attain a lather that is truly rich and bountiful. And of all the brushes I’ve tried, AP Shave Cº.’s Blue Lagoon brush reigns supreme, creating the richest and glossiest lather. I have also discovered that a slightly damp brush works best for me; a brush that is too wet leads to a disappointingly wispy lather. Lathering in a bowl produces froth, but when I make the lather on my palm, the outcome is nothing short of exceptional.

At a mere third of a gram of soap per shave, this puck of Windsor may very well last me until Thanksgiving. That's a sobering thought. Yet, the cost per shave is merely pennies, which is a remarkable value for such a premium product. I am thoroughly impressed with this soap, and I now remember why it’s one of the few pucks I’ve ever used up.

That’s not all that I’ve learned, though. I’ve also tried some new tools, including blades and razors. Initially, I was skeptical about the Wizamet blades, but after giving them a chance, I am delighted to report that they’ve exceeded my previous benchmark, the Polsilver Super Iridium, as the best blades I’ve ever used. They perform splendidly, and best of all, they do not rust.

Next week, I’ll embark on a hunt for the perfect razor to complement my newfound lathering skills and top-quality blades. While the Edwin Jagger razors provided me with comfortable and painless shaves, they didn’t always provide me with a close shave. The Blackland Vector Ti, on the other hand, offered a close shave, but it wasn’t the most comfortable. I'm still on the lookout for an Artist Club blade that strikes the right balance; the Feather Pros were too rough, while the Kai pinks were too mild.

In the meantime, I’ve discovered that Blackland’s Blackbird Lite Ti razor is simply wonderful. Its weight and balance are ideal for my needs, and when coupled with the Wizamet blades I’ve come to love, I can achieve three passes without any irritation. It’s an absolute joy to use, and I am looking forward to continuing to experiment with it in the coming weeks.

All things considered, my shaving journey this week has been a riveting exploration of the intersection of science and art. I’m eagerly anticipating what new discoveries and innovations await me in the weeks and months ahead with Windsor, Wizamet, and the Blackbird.
