This is supposed to smell like chili seeds, and it does to a point. But it also smells of black pepper, fennel, and most of all nutmeg. It took me a while to recall where I had smelled this combination of aromas before. It was very familiar, but I just couldn’t place it. And then yesterday as I curried some eggs I reached for the garam masala, and shazam!, I realized what Volcano is all about. The odd thing, though, is that Volcano, against all expectations, doesn’t smell warm. It’s like you’re sniffing cool spiced air. Odd but very agreeable.

Bouki,
Maybe I'm thinking of another, but does this smell like the ol' Polo Green??

Hmmm.... you might have some other soap in mind. I don't think Volcano smells even remotely like Polo Green, alas.

No worries, I wasn't sure I was locked in.

They have a new formula (Phoebus, I think).  In my opinion, it's not worth trying.  But if you really want to try it, send me your address and I'll send you plastic pick tin that isn't nearly as cool as the one you have now Smile

I used the same setup for yesterday and today's shave.  Love the light "green" scent on this one

I was aware of Bouki's thoughts on the soaps but I bought one of the tins some time last year hoping they had made an update. I haven't used it yet but it smells quite nice so hopefully it's some type of new formula. The plastic containers as you mentioned appear to be different a more creamier soap but the scents didn't appeal to me.

Dirtyver (Declaration Grooming) vetiver & cedar
Shave 3 ・ 103 g left

Vetiver, with its intriguing earthy scent, has a rich history in perfumery, dating back to ancient Indian civilizations who used it to freshen the hot tropical air. Vetiver is widely used as a base for many contemporary fragrances as well, due to its ability to prolong the longevity of top notes. However, it's uncommon to find a fragrance that highlights the earthy qualities of vetiver to a great degree. But Dirtyver, as its name suggests, does just that, accentuating the robust rootiness and dirty raw smell of freshly harvested vetiver. It reminds me of forking up potatoes and beets. Fans of petrichor, and Idaho farmers, will love it.

Lol, agreed Lip. I tried their stuff over and over per the fan boys. Thought I couldn't shave well/had no skills as I got horrible lathers. Confirmation! It sux. Through mine in the backyard and tried washing my sheepdog with it; that didn't work either.

I'm with you on this one, Lip! Once I relished Traditionnel's ability to lather effortlessly and leave my skin soft. But alas, I soon discovered its fleeting shelf life. After mere months of use, I could no longer extract a lather despite earnest efforts. I recommend purchasing directly from Le Père Lucien, France, and using promptly. Continued daily use is essential as the soap's virtue fades in mere months, rendering it unworthy even for washing the dog. The tins, though, are quite charming.

Dragonsbeard, take a look at the ingredients there on the label, please. What's missing? Why does this soap just stop lathering after a short while?
Lol - just read your post after my dog comment... . Funny. We are on the same page.

I haven't used this in years. Scent [almond] still strong. Performance grand. Forgot what a nice lather this baby produces..... very very similar to Boellis. The Italians know how to make tallow soaps. [Image: aa45a771bb9247d7b0d06525bbbfbdb9.jpg]

Pretty sure no tallow in that there cream, Sir Tommy. (Rich, regardless!)
Nero - right as always brother. Pretty good stuff for a non-tallow. It is reminiscent of MdC & Sir Henry.
