Fufluns (Abbate y La Mantia) vindemia

PRESENTATION Fufluns was the ancient Etruscan god of the vineyard. In art he’s usually depicted as a young man, but on this soap’s label Abbate y La Mantia turn him into a baby Bacchus sipping from a milk bottle. More on that later. The soap is housed in sturdy aluminum can with a tight fitting lid.
SCENT As I opened Fufluns, I was astonished by what I encountered. The fragrance was a beautiful dream, as if I had been transported to a Tuscan summer morning at the start of the grape harvest. Delicate and fruity notes of grape leaves, immature berries, and ripe bunches of grapes flooded the room with a mesmerizing aroma and brought to mind ancient tales of Bacchus, the satyrs, nymphs, and maenads in full merriment.
LATHER Abbate y La Mantia offer two bases, a rock hard milled soap and a much softer croap. Fufluns is the latter. Loading is easy, as is building the lather, which is much richer than the foamy froth their hard soap makes. Three milks – cow, donkey, and goat – provide extra richness and lead to an especially soft finish. The scent stays strong throughout the shave.
THE UPSHOT Yes, I like this a lot! The garden grape scent is unlike any other I’ve smelled in a shave soap, and the performance is much better than that of the hard soap. It’s an inviting, elegant shave.

I’m not a drinking man but if I were, and gin and tonic really smell like this, that would be my drink. Juniper and citrus? I do dig this scent and of course Stirling soap is amazing. I chose that wooden Black Limba brush because Limba smells exactly like juniper (well, no it does not smell anything like juniper but the knot smells like the soap now)
