I used Seaforth Black Watch soap and splash today. It’s very nice. Dennis of Spearhead Shaving used a new base for Black Watch. His original base is very good but this one is even better. It’s very much like MacDuff’s v4 soap base (indistinguishable) and I consider MacDuff’s to be in the top 5 soap bases that I’ve tried. Maybe top 3, so when I say Black Watch is reminiscent of MacDuff’s it’s high praise. The Black Watch fragrance was blended by Shawn Maher and it’s very nice. I get a lot of the base notes sandalwood and oak moss if the puck/lather but the top notes shine through in the splash. I held off buying this one for a while and I’d had it waiting on the shelf for a month but I’m glad I bought it and I don’t think it will be another month before it’s used again.

Cade (L’Occitane) sweet juniper
Shave 14 ・ 102 g left

Doggone, Dan, what an excellent shave, and I owe it all to you. Earlier this week you mentioned that a hard puck like Cade lathers best with a floppy synth brush. Problem was I couldn’t find one. The brush I had in mind seems to have grown legs and sauntered away. What happened? Well, as many of you know, one of the unforeseen side effects of proselytizing the close kin into the wet shaving fold is that your kit starts going amok, awry, and then amiss.

So it’s taken me a few days to root through my old castaways in search of a suitable replacement, but I’ve finally found a mushy brush. The Razorock Disruptor with its Plissoft knot has got all the flop you could ever want. It’s marvelously spineless. It’s so limp that years ago I discarded it to the backwaters of the den thinking it didn’t have the brawn to tackle a first rate soap. Boy, was I wrong. It took me a while to dredge it up, but now that it’s back in the lineup, I predict it will become my chiefest lather thrasher whenever I pick up Cade.

I haven’t shaved for four days.  Maybe three.  Anyway, I needed my whiskers whittled and a great plan is the new Black Tie Avenue and a gillette new to get em good!
