Island Estate (Sir Henry’s) smooth bay rum
Shave 6 ・ 99 g left

Following Tommy’s lead, I picked a few tubs of bay rum to finish the week. Their spicy, warm scent suits the season. Today’s Island Estate, though, isn’t one of those overloaded holiday scents. In fact, apart from the bay itself, I don’t smell much spice at all. Happily, what I get is a nice pinch of pimenta racemosa coupled with lots of green, sappy notes and a whiff of smoke. The scent of the aftershave is a bit stronger, but thankfully cinnamon and orange haven’t blotted out the bay. I have to admit, though, the texture is a little odd. It comes out of the bottle oily and syrupy and takes quite a while to dry. Might be best for a desert shave.

Bay Rum day #3

Hendrix Classics

Enjoying the Bay during the holiday season! Bouki has reminded me that my SH Bay Rum will run anchor for me as I shave through my line up.

This puck is not spicy at all, but is very niiiiice. Pleased with the base, not a foamer at all.... low profile grease that wasn't too thirsty. Going to have to explore this maker thanks to Bluegrass.

On deck, Mike's Bay Rum - Thu°Rose°day will have to wait.

C U all tomorrow [Image: 2bb474b54be1f1c1efce4a32064abc2c.jpg]

I gotta say, I can enjoy Bay Rum anytime of year. I never thought of it as a holiday scent.

This post is really covering nearly a week -- been using the A&E Recipe everyday to provide consistency while I tried out the Atelier Durdan Maurice's heads in the passaround.  Creamy, unscented fine soap.  Every shave with Recipe, a K2e base, is a pleasure.

Sudsy Soapery - Lemon Rose Chypre (Chatillon Lux collaboration) (beef tallow)

Off topic, sorry. I've used the Pearl Flexi (v11, I believe) for my past two shaves, since it just was delivered. What are your thoughts on that? Honestly, I'm having trouble with it (tuggy and not smooth, really fighting the beard), even with some of my finest soaps. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hello my friend

Make sure that the razor is aligned properly is the first thing I’d check out. With the blade loaded look down on the head and see if the blade is even and straight. Id also look at the razor head on both sides up close with the SB facing you and at eye level. If you see a slight smile or frown then that’s the problem. I bought a razor a few years ago that was supposed to be a smooth shaver and no matter what angle, blade or soap I used it was very harsh. A friend of mine who restores razor told me to check for the smile and sure enough it had it and he said the razor is no good and can’t be repaired so get your money back. It came out that mine wasn’t the only one with that problem.

I’m not saying that’s for sure the problem but a possibility, considering your a seasoned wet shaver and I’m sure you have your technique down so I highly doubt it’s anything that you are doing wrong.

I would think tuggy would be a dull blade before being the razors fault but just my thoughts. LOVE your photos even if I don't always comment on them !
