Barrister & Mann say they took their inspiration for this scent from photos of libraries paneled in teak and mahogany and filled with leather furniture. I’ve spent decades in musty, dusty libraries, as well as a few fortunate days in some pretty luxurious libraries too, but none has smelled anything like The Full Measure of Man. When I take a whiff of this soap what I smell is citrus, vanilla, cinnamon, nuts, and geranium along with the sweet smell of warm sugar. Instead of an image of a magnificent library, I see an old-fashioned sweet shop with warm praline on the counter. Nice, but not really what I came in for.

I have been thinking of buying this soap. I love B&M base and the notes on this one sound really nice.

Tim’s has been defunct now for several years but during his heyday this Texan made quite a splash especially with his scents Greek Peach and the “what does that mean” Ghostface Nilla.  I wonder how his soaps might perform today had he stuck around and learned better bases etc.  as it is, his scents would certainly still be popular today because they were approachable and the stories he had with each scent matched the smell inside the tub.  The soap, compared to other offerings is a high steric, high structure affair that lathers easy, stays in place, and protects decently with cushion and slip.  The performance I get is near the bottom of the pack in my hoard (but I don’t have any junk so……). Why do I keep ‘em around?  Because of the scents.  This Breakfast of Champions was a tongue in cheek battle of the dichotomy.  Cigar tobacco, whisky, and coffee are major notes here and certainly not fodder for a morning meal but my oh my it is nice.

DR Harris Arlington is a citrus topped woody to my nose and one of my favorite scents.  I lean to the weird and esoteric but when it comes to Harris, I’m straight up middle of the road.  I could smell like this every day for the rest of my days and not feel I’d offend anyone.  And for me the performance of Harris hard pucks is exemplary.  So good.  So very good.  Couple it with a fattie 30mm badger and shaving nirvana is the result.

Tallow Tuesday
Cella

So very infrequently seen by our crew. I quite like the base: and the scent is well known, but unobtrusive-going out a great daily reach, and not expensive. I have 3 kilos from 10 years back. Oh crap, gotta start using it.
