Lime & Coconut (Mike’s Natural Soaps) haupia

Mike doesn’t make a lime and coconut soap. If you want this luscious tropical combo, you’re going to have to make it yourself. It’s easy. Take one tub of Mike’s Lime and one tub of Mike’s Coconut, pop the pucks out of their tubs, slice them in half, and then shuffle and pair the halves so that I you have two tubs of lime and coconut soap. Take a look at the picture below. The coconut is the dark half, the lime is the light. But why bother? Well, on their own, neither the Lime nor the Coconut smell that interesting, but put them together and you’ve got something that’s both rich and refreshing like sunshine bursting through the clouds on a rainy day. And since you've got two tubs of the stuff, you'll be smelling like a luau for a least a decade.

Bouki I think it's cool when people do stuff like this. I know I remember seeing people years ago with this combo thought it was a worthy combo. If I can be completely honestly, I love Mike's Lime to the moon and for reference, I love Geo F Trumpers Coconut shave cream scent. But the smell of Mike's Coconut was one I could never shave with. I can't remember if people described it more specifically roasted or toasted coconut but it doesn't agree with my nose. Can Bouki or anyone share how to differentiate the different coconut aspects?

Hi, Zack – yup, I agree with you. Mike's Coconut, all on its own, is tough to shave with. What's wrong with it? Well, it's too delicious. I could eat the stuff. It reminds me of toasted coconut doused generously with some really good vanilla. Add a drop of chocolate and you'll have a splendid macaroon. Really, it's the vanilla that tips the scales. There's too much of it. I know there are lots of shavers who love a good dab of vanilla, but it doesn't work for me. I have to cut it with something sour, like lime.

And I like Trumper's Coconut Oil. It isn't as rich and sweet as Mike's. Smells more like suntan lotion and less like a bakery. Unfortunately, I didn't get a really great shave with it. So I turned it into a hand soap and enjoyed it tremendously for a month.

I rarely do copy-cat shaves.  This one was inspired by Bouki's Tuesday shave, insofar as pairing B&M Cool with Epsilon Blue Mediterranean.  A very cool and refreshing shave, and IMO with a pleasant, somewhat old-timey vibe (due chiefly to the Epsilon Blue I think).
