Last night's shave:  The lather pic is certainly not what one would expect from an Oaken Lab soap, so please let me explain.  I spent the majority of Sunday afternoon in the blazing sun doing yard work.  I finished up in the early evening and when I realized no one was home, I thought I would indulge myself with a shower and shave before making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner.  But shortly after starting my shave ritual, I heard my beautiful wife yell "honey, you looked pretty worn out this afternoon, so I went and picked up Portillo's for dinner.  I even got you a chocolate cake shake."  What are you going to do at that point?  Well, I don't know about you guys but I stopped face-lathering, took a quick pic, did a one-pass shave, and then devoured an Italian beef sandwich and shake.  Such an amazing woman!

Last few day's shave's soaps (no pics):

Saponificio Varesino Felce Aromatica -- still not very clear what makes the scent "fern" but it's slick soap.

A&E Gin Club -- solid juniper. Use it infrequently but somehow I like to use it when I'm going out somewhere for a full night (dinner, dancing, etc). It's now been discontinued but I've probably got a few more year's use from the original puck.

Grooming Dept Ousia -- never sure what aftershave to use with it, however. Went with DRH Arlington and a spot of Ethos Colonia added in.

Summer Break Rope Swing. Summer by the swimmin' hole.

Barrister’s Reserve Spice (Barrister & Mann) Old Spice (ish)
Shave 3 ・ 108 g left

This isn’t as flowery as the Old Spice I remember. The stuff I grew up with was loaded with carnation, jasmine, and heliotrope. It was originally a woman’s fragrance, after all. That may explain why it’s still a scent women like to smell on their men. Barrister & Mann’s interpretation is definitely on the spicier side. I get a lot of cinamon, anise, and cedar. In fact, it’s so spicy, it gives me a little burn, though nothing so hot as Mélange, which was just too warm for me.

I hope there will always be a hard, triple milled soap for me to whack. (Ah, who am I kidding.  I have enough hard pucks to get me to the end).  I really do like the process of a hard puck of quality shaving soap and yes there are still several choices.  Cyril Salter has a lovely lavender puck.  Floris offers two different scents that work well.  Tabac, Mitchell’s, Pre de Provence, and a few others also make great soaps.  I’m really quite fond of DR Harris though and right now I’m working through a lavender puck.  Lavender has long been a favorite of mine and this one is a very floral offering.  In fact it’s a cleaned up lavender in that it doesn’t have that camphor note that more raw lavender exhibits.  It’s soft scented but doesn’t fade and rinses away when done.  This puck will probably only give me 5.2 x 10(3) shaves so I might not quite get though it.
