Picked up the new Le Pere Lucien base during one of Pasteur's 15 or 20% off sales and it's been sitting around for awhile. Why wait so long to try it? Easy...the scent. This is the Lilas scent which, based on the description, is a lilac scented soap. Well, no, it's really not! To me, this is the scent you might get where the stem of the lilac meets the ground. It is more of an "earthy" scent than a floral. Off the tub, it is slightly off-putting and I haven't been too excited or anxious to try it. I decided to use it this morning because I really didn't need a shave and I thought "well if it's a terrible lather or the scent gets worse, no biggie, I can cut the shave short and be ok." To my surprise, the scent did open up once I started face-lathering. It never achieved what I would consider to be a true floral scent but I was able to pick out a few subtle whiffs of a floral. I ended up doing a 3-pass shave and followed up with Declaration Grooming Mayflower.
Le Domino (Martin de Candre) herb garden
Shave 1 ・ 60 g left
This soap comes in a diminutive glass jar that looks vaguely like a domino tile, hence the name. It really is small. We’re talking about 2½ inches square. I had to use my tiniest brush since anything larger would have swallowed the soap whole. The scent is Martin de Candre’s L’Original (lavender, mind, rosemary), and the performance is the same as always. But today I put four drops of Ethos’ skin food lotion right on the face of the puck and loaded up heartily. After the scraping I finished with Ethos’ skin food splash. Let’s see if these fine additions help with the post-shave discomfort I’ve felt with the soap recently.
