Today's shave was a delightful treat.  It was my first shave with Tonka Bean and second shave with the Tatara Hybrid.  The scent was medium and pleasant to my (challenged) nose, and the lather was tip-top shelf superb.  The hybrid continues to impress.  It is intuitive, mild, and impressively efficient.

And again today.  I love sandalwood and this one from Sir Henrys always satisfies.  Reminds me of the great Tabac in ease of use but better post shave.

Goes nice with bay rum. If you like heat, finish up with a couple lashings of Captain’s Choice Cat o’ Nine Tails. That’s not the hottest bay rum in the hold, but it will certainly warm the cheeks. And what’s better, the sour orange of today’s soap settles right in with the aftershave's fiery bay and spices.

I’m curious, as I’ve not ever paired Dragonsbeard with the Vanilla Safi. How did those two work together?

Frank my friend, you are working too hard.  I can afford to keep crazy hours and sleep in sometimes, but you are cranking out products at a dizzying rate lately, and I know the Shave MD tribute to Mark is especially heavy on your mind.  Case in point:  Your quoted post here, which you made about 2:30AM on a workday, and in which you said "Vanilla Safi" when I think you meant to say "Tonka Bean".  Set yourself up on a date with nature's sweet nurse, sleep.

That aside, let me respond as well as I can.  In my mind, combining Tonka Bean soap, then Dragonsbeard SFS, and lastly Uomo, was perhaps not "logical" scentwise.  The Tonka Bean and Uomo complement each other well enough.  My nose knows what it likes, but I don't  trust it to always pick out and correctly identify notes.  For that, I often look for help elsewhere, and in this case "elsewhere" meant the 1,299 users on Fragrantica who voted Tonka bean the most prominent note for Uomo.  The thing about the Dragonsbeard SFS is that, at least to my nose, the scent is really powerful, so it is going to overshadow the soap unless they match closely, which I don't think they do.  I simply didn't consider that aspect carefully enough before choosing the Dragonsbeard SFS.  Mind you, I still enjoyed the shave and all the scents, and that's really what counts, isn't it?  Nevertheless, I own several of your skin food splashes, and had I been more thoughtful, I might have chosen the DFS Colonia SFS, which in my mind is closer to the Tonka Bean Soap and less powerful than the Dragonsbeard SFS.
