Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Himalayan Heights (Meißner Tremonia) deodar cedar
Shave 22 ・ 165 g left

Meißner Tremonia soaps make a very unusual lather. It starts off light and sort of puffy. In fact, at first glance it doesn’t inspire much confidence. But juice it up a little and it becomes surprisingly thick and protective. This means it will support a shave with a heavy razor. At 87 grams, today’s cutting iron, the Tatara Masamuna, isn’t the heaviest tool in the shed, but it’s not the sort of razor I’d normally pick for a non-tallow lather. So what makes these Meißner Tremonia soaps so protective? I think it’s the combination of clay and talc. They put down a nice earthy layer right next to the skin that keeps the sharp edge of the blade at bay.

On the mountain, the French climbers think they’ve finally found a route to the top of Annapurna. Most of them have trained in the Alps, where summits are climbed quickly, usually in one or two days. But this Himalayan mountain is so massive, they’ll have to assault it in several day-long stages. This means there will be endless shuffling of supplies from one camp to the next. It’s a tedious slog, both for the climbers and the reader.

Levante

A beautiful cologne like puck, reminiscent of TF Neroli Portofino, 4711, Mugler Cologne, Federic Malle Cologne Inedible, Creed Neroli Savauge etc.

Phil at Bullgoose is the author and I will have to say it is a great summer/warm weather soap. Performance and lather feel like Floris [new formula]. I believe it was manufactured in Europe.

I have been lathering it frequently this summer. Backup puck worthy she is!

Recent worthy./landmark personal wet shave discoveries :
In 2018, thanks to Lip, discovered Sir Henry
In 2019, tried Franks Ethos soaps & post shave products
In 2020, tried Omnibus - my favorite base
In 2021, thanks to Marko, discovered LJDJ
In 2022, thanks to Nero°Li, discovered Levante
And now Dom has given us back a tallow Fine Santal
Frank continues to make our skin better

As the country flails, our shaving has never been better!

C U all tomorrow

Last night's shave - just out of curiosity, I checked my spreadsheet and this was the first use of a badger brush in 2022.  Being a synthetic-guy, the badgers don't come out to play too often.  But something about a well-bloomed SV soap and a badger brush just always seems to hit the spot

Beautiful relaxing scent. I love the nutty aspect. The last Ethos I used was many moons ago and had coconut oil and I see that is gone. Coconut milk and more butters incorporated. Wonderful lather and post.

As Matt said a few days ago no hesitation on a backup. I’m sold. Great work Frank.

It's not often that I use a soap 2 times in a row but my last shave with this was so nice I decided to roll with it again.
