Fleur de France turns my lips numb. Really. First they feel sort of hairy, and then they go kind of frozen. It feels like the topical anesthetic the dentist puts on your gums before he pumps you full of lidocaine. The sensation disappears as soon as I rinse, so I’m not too worried. But it’s odd. Have you ever had anything like this?

That's really odd.  Did it happen both times you tried the soap?

I really like rosemary. There are a couple bushes just outside my bathroom window. On a rainy day they perfume the room while I’m shaving. When it’s dry, though, I have to rely on Fleur de France for my herbal fix. There’s a nice slug of rosemary in this fougère. It’s fresh and sappy with a few sharp edges. Luckily there’s also a heap of jasmine in this soap. It gives the fragrance a soft floral cushion and takes the edge off the prickly parts.

HoosierShave: Yes, this soap numbed my lips each time I used it. But none of Spearhead's other soaps does this. So I suspect there's something in the fragrance oils that's bringing this on. It doesn't last, though. Once I wash away the lather, the numbness disappears. Strange, but not troubling. I'm happy to keep using this soap, and I may stick with it for a long stretch. It really suits the season, and it's a nice match for a book about France that I'm reading now, R. L. Stevenson's An Inland Voyage

Summer, creams, boar brushes back in the rotation. This is a great one. Love the matching AFS.
