Many is the day that I am glad NOT to be competing in the hobby-shave space. Can’t imagine how hard it is to stay relevant while cooking soap, answering emails, shipping, procuring raw product, and dealing with trolls. Proraso, who doesn’t cater, nor appeal much, to the hobbyist still owns a big percentage of the every-man space.  They offer at my last check three different scents, none of which are earth shaking.  Their business model has to be, sell a soap to a fella, then sell him another when it’s gone.  I highly doubt if many outside the hobby has a cupboard filled with Proraso.  But A soaper that caters to the hobbyist has to rely on weirdos like me who have enough soap to float a battle ship around.  New scents, new formulae, new ingredients, new packaging.  And I have to guess formulating a winning scent is tough!  I wish them all luck recognizing and transitioning to sustainable target markets but until then I’ll shave with a different soap every single day.  This morning was Amazelnut from B&M.  I’d seen some negative reviews out there but knowing myself to like the odd or quirky I bought a tub and…….I really do like it.  Scent notes are hazelnut, Vetiver, and vanilla but I get a coffee note for sure and a boozy note too, neither of which are likely in the mix.  Is reminds me much of Tims Breakfast of Champions without the tobacco note.  Best scent of all time? No, I enjoy Tims BoC more but the omnibus base works well and the scent is enjoyable although it really does fade upon lathering.  The label art?  Fantastic!

Vétivert (Ethos) vetiver cologne
Shave 6 ・ 100% left

It’s taken six shaves to work this jar of Vétivert down to the weight that appears on the label. In other words, Ethos gave me an extra nine grams of soap. At the rate I’m going, I’ll probably get between ninety and a hundred shaves out of this jar. I’d call that a bargain. Do I expect this sort of generosity out of every soap? Of course not. But it's sure nice to get a little something extra from time to time.
