It takes me back to kiddom when lilac bushes were the flowering shrub of choice when there was not a nursery on every corner nor an internet to let us check out things, nor television that allowed Chip and Joanna Gains to hold sway in our lives. Things were simpler and Hollyhocks actually had respect. There were lilacs, roses, daffodils, geraniums and petunias and other flowers that didn’t demand a horticulture degree nor a babysitter. They liked cow manure rather than store bought stuff. The roses were old shrubby pioneer roses in either rose or yellow. the smelled delicious but would strip you naked with thorns from Hades if you had to retrieve a baseball out of them. Mom had a flowering crab apple tree that mush have been a billion years old because it was about 15 ft high and a foot and a half across the stump. It was beautiful in the spring but pre-fruitless varieties the darn things would drop worthless marble sized apples in the fall. That tree, and cattle taught me to swear. our ditch banks held wild mint and lavender. Used to pick a sprig of either when irrigating. Lavender still holds top spot when it comes to florals with me and when I eat tater salad I like it so black with pepper it looks like you dropped it in the sandbox. So a lavender soap with a heady dose of black pepper? And I swear there is a kiss of mint in the mix too. That’s a win.

Not a Bay Rum for the more refined seafarer
Blackberry Blossom Bay Rum. I was admonished in the Bay Run thread that this is Not a Bay Rum. "...if bay rum is for pirates, this would be for the more refined seafarer. I started thinking about steamboats going down the Mississippi River through St. Louis. I could imagine a collection of gentlemen, from river destinations like Memphis, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge congregating on the deck as the boat docks in the old city where the Gateway Arch now stands. This is a scent that I could imagine them smelling like as they listen to the band play "Blackberry Blossom" as they sun goes down behind the Old Cathedral and Old Courthouse, before they were considered to be old."

Los Jabones De Joserra- Brihuega. This is a very well done Lavender scent, no ‘cat piss’ ExtraProtein smell in this one. Great scent strength and an outstanding soap base. I just wish I was able to get my hands on the matching Splashes, I would probably have a lot more from this maker in my Den if I could.

Brings to mind some long layovers in the Milan Malpensa airport. Bartenders there always have a high stack of blood oranges they’ll squeeze for you. Good for sipping while you watch the jets take off and land.
Here on the home front, I collected every scrap of shaving soap in the shack and put it all in on the scales. Looks like I’ve got close to 18 kilos counting all the dupes and reserved pucks. I’ll be knee-deep in lather until 2058, at least. Just wish they all were as good as this jar of Blood Orange. I’m really digging the texture of this cream. Building the lather is a snap. It just jumps into your brush. And once the scraping starts, it’s as protective as a hard tallow soap. But, man, doesn't it smell like the best orange juice you ever drank.
