What a glorious scent and so nostalgic.  No blossoms here in Idaho and I hope they keep their heads down for awhile!  Snowed this weekend and more in the forecast.  And Bouki, this Motherlode knot is starting to win me over.

Fourth in my series of Declaration Grooming shaves:

Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux Weinstrasse
Milksteak Base
Notes: white grape, honeysuckle, iris, blackcurrant bud, helichrysum, sandalwood, coumarin, oakmoss and musk.
"This fragrance aims to reimagine the fougère with a white grape top note and a lush, dense supporting cast of flora and fauna that could be found on the winding trails, perfect for a beautiful day with no particular destination in mind."

In those days of my misspent young adulthood, I spent many a day in the Sonoma and Napa Wine Country in Northern California, hanging out in the vineyards and sipping wine.  Later on, I cycled my way through this very same wine country on long bicycle rides, centuries and brevets of up to 600 kilometers.  This area is world class, both for cycling and for wines.  In Weinstrasse, Shawn Maher has captured the soul-gratifying beauty of wine country, far from Northern California.  It is the white grape top note, particularly, that does it.  His description given above is apt.

Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Peppermint & Rosemary (Mike’s Natural Soaps) cool rosemary
Shave 2 ・ 124 g left

There’s no escaping the heavy clay-like note in of most of Mike’s soaps. It smells like dry soil that’s just been sprinkled by a passing shower. I believe it’s the kaolin that’s been added to improve the lubrication. I guess it works, because Mike’s lather is the most protective among all my soaps. It’s what I reach for when my tender skin needs a break. And to be honest, I sort of like this earthy note in most of Mike’s scents. For instance, in today’s Peppermint & Rosemary, it brings up happy memories of watering a sun-baked herb garden on a hot summer’s day.

Such a fantastic scent!  I was able to snag a couple backups of the AS when he announced he wouldn't be doing splashes anymore but still need to buy a tub of the soap
