Dragonsbeard made me a F base Colonia which will be my one and only soap while I’m traveling in Europe for the next 9 weeks. First use was today…Perfection!

Colonia (Ethos) classic Italian cologne
Shave 6 ・ 109 g left

This was Saturday's shave. I wasn't able to squeeze into this thread before the site went down over the weekend.

I started to panic when I saw that I had only 109 grams of this soap left. Was I really burning through it that fast? You see, most of my Ethos soaps come in 4.5-ounce containers. Starting out, each holds about 135 grams of soap. So I thought I’d scooped up 26 grams of Colonia in only six shaves. A closer look at the label, though, showed me that this jar of Colonia came in a 4-ounce jar and that it held around 117 grams to begin with. That means I’ve been using only 0.8 grams per shave. That’s about the same as a puck of Martin de Candre. How much will each shave with Colonia cost? I figure about a quarter, or maybe just a penny more. Good solid stuff!

We don’t see much of Merkur Man in these parts any more, but his influence certainly lives on. His classic video on how to build a lather right on the puck is still my preferred method when it comes to shaving with Mike’s Natural or Mystic Water soaps. Talk about yogurt. Don’t let Yoplait see your results, or they’ll be scooping up your lather and pumping into little plastic pots sold for a buck apiece. And that won’t leave you much to shave with.

Today marks the end of my eighth year of shaving with soap, a brush, and a double-edged razor. What a fun, bizarre ride it’s been. Starting out, I never would have thought something as humdrum as shaving could spark so much interest (or drained away so many dollars!). But it’s been worth it, not only for the shaves, but really just as much for the cameraderie. Thanks for being a part of it.

Palmolive Cool cream with menthol

The scent is so familiar, my father used to shave with this cream. It gives me a nice fresh start of the day, the menthol kick is just right.[Image: b1afd8bdf94fbe607a87c7c499bcda0c.jpg]
