Highland Springs Soap Co/Australian Private Reserve Eclipse

Scent Description:  Russian leather and dark musk are predominant initially, followed by blond tobacco, dried fig and bourbon then rounding out with floral notes of Carnation, Geranium and Lavender.  The dry down on this scent emphasizes its complexity, like the moon slowly passing in front of the sun, it darkens over time, leaving you in the shadows of Eclipse.

Scent notes:
Top notes: Bergamot, Dried Fig, Carnation, Mimosa, Cedarwood & Carnation
Heart Notes: Cocoa, White Rum, Blond Tobacco, Russian Leather, Narcissus, Pink Pepper, Bourbon Geranium & Lavender
Base Notes: Benzoin, Sandalwood, Civet, Oud, Amyris, Citrus & Black Musk

This masterpiece is my go-to soap when I want a scent that is richly dark and complex.  It is the only soap for which I have a back-up.

Started wet-shaving 6 years ago today and I still remember the trepidation of putting blade to skin.  The real scary part was definitely the ATG pass but I still did it.  Six years later and I've learned quite a bit, most importantly what works for me.  The gear I started out with was an anniversary gift from my beautiful wife.  And, no, it's not the best for me.  But I still have it (i'm a sentimental old scrooge) and normally I would have used the that setup as a sentimental tribute on a day like today.  But i have no clue where I packed the Merkur and Sir Hare.  So this year, I'll stick with the MdC and Overlander Smile

Wholly Kaw is by all measures a great soap and maker but it just hasn’t clicked with me.  Shoot, we live in a time of ridiculous choosing.  I literally have dozens of choices for a daily shave in my own home and hundreds of choices on the web.  This soap is called Spice Vitae but it could be called Dental Lab because this smell reminds me of how my sons disinfecting room smells at his office.  So why in blue blazes would I keep it around?  Well, after I got over the poor moniker, I find I don’t mind the smell of cleaning the chem lab and that top note of rubbing alcohol seems pleasant now.  Add the surprise I get when the brush hits the puck and I smell…..sandalwood hiding there and it’s just so quirky and unexpected that I keep playing with it.  By the way, there seems to be no sandalwood in the mix. In fact I get zero hint of the stated scent profile on this one.  Perhaps I got a puck that was out when they cleaned up?  No matter.  It performs nicely and the scent is growing on me.  Anyone else have this puck and what are you smelling when you use it?

Does your bowl of Marlborough have much of a scent? I got one a few months ago, and I was disappointed by how bland it smelled. There was virtually nothing by way of wood or spice or whatever else this soap is supposed to smell like. But it makes a nice lather, and it might make a good hand soap some day.

Nero, what are your impressions?
