Lately I’ve been taking just one swipe at my face, always with the grain. The results have been good, and thanks to this gentle approach, my tender skin’s in heaven. But there is one drawback. After spending five minutes concocting the perfect lather, it’s sort of a let down to have the scraping all done in a matter of seconds. What to do? I’ve started shaving in slow motion. Instead of slashing away at my beard like a saber-wielding cavalryman clearing a path through a whole battalion, now I let the razor calmly, quietly slink down my cheeks. This way it’s easy to keep the cutting angle steady, so the razor falls over the skin catching nothing but hair. And I suspect I’ll quickly notice when blade becomes dull. But best of all, the way each whisker gives a little snap just as it’s cut … that’s very satisfying.
