Somedays I just want to roll among the juniper bushes on my way over the mountain. Heck, who among us doesn't?  Well, that is how Fitjar describes this soap, after all, and who am I to disagree?  I've never once rolled among the juniper bushes when I've been going over a mountain so I'll assume the good folks off the coast of Norway nailed the scent.  But it is not the strongest scent around. So, I make it up with Champlain which really is a whack of a northern fir tree forest.  The soap, however, is darned good and the moisturizing aftershave is also first rate.  All around, one winter's day of a lovely shave as we're expecting some more snow tonight.

Sudsy Soapery: Rose & Black Pepper

A new rose, with a nice strong black pepper thanks to Matt for highlighting this one. My first usage, and I did not get the lather wet enough. It was too peaky, and caked on me while shaving. The soap is quite soft and I must have pulled a tablespoon off the puck & into the brush. Will try again on another Thursday. I would have called this soap Black Pepper with Rose.... , so if you boys are scared of smelling like Karen, you won't with this product as the pepper is pretty strong. It is a nice autumn or winter rose.

C U all tomorrow

Fresco (Ethos) minty lime basil
Shave 2 ・ 132 g left

Bright, bold, and refreshing, Fresco was just the thing to crack open after a sunny morning spent trimming the yard. How does Fresco smell? Like crates of fresh limes, with basil and mint giving added sparkle and depth. This is only my second outing with this soap, so I’m still working on how to build the best lather. Today I got a nice slick and easy emulsion that drank fairly deep and whipped up into a full-bodied peaky cream. But it wasn’t as dense as I like. I may try a heavier load next time. What’s your favorite way of working with Ethos F-base?

I had no idea until now that I would be posting a TommyCarioca Thu-Rose-day reprise.  Either great minds think alike Tommy, or we're both in trouble.

Like Tommy (but unlike Matt) the scent was definitely strongly pepper forward to me too, although to my nose, the balance improved once lathered.  In any case, I agree with Matt that nothing about this soap says "granny" or "Windex" to me.  OTOH and without any justification at all, I was mildly disappointed that the pepper smelled ground, without the more delightful bouquet of fresh cracked black pepper.  As for performance, the lathering went without a hitch, and the lather did its job quite nicely.  All in all, I'm very glad to have this in the den, and so another thanks to Matt for highlighting this.

You sir, are skilled with the brush and your choice of soaps. I failed getting a nice lather. First fail in a couple of years. My change in routine away from blooming has me off kilter.

I noticed that you weren't happy with tonight's shave Tommy, and I'm sorry about that, but it does sometimes happen.  FWIW, I did not bloom this soap, and I did add a lot of water (gradually).  Also, for tonight's shave, I was using the Blackland Era, which has large lather vents, and that might have helped with the flow through.

Interesting, Tommy. I think you got my black pepper and I got your rose. Mine is 95.5% rose and I would have to really go digging for the other 4.5%.

On the softer side of the spectrum, as you alluded to. But wouldn't say it's one of my "easy to overload" soaps.

Did you bloom it? I could see that causing this to overload.

Try this again soon, my friend. I have to believe that you will love it as I do. Ymmv though, of course.

(In any case, I'm also excited to see your thoughts on the Beef Tallow formula. And the Mango Butter formula, if you got any of that.)

EDIT: Ditto this to Highspeed. Hmmm we definitely have different batches, Gents! Mine is unquestionably rose...only question is if it's ONLY rose.
