Stinking Covid! Most of my sense of smell has returned although some fractions are still muted. One of those definitely affects my perception of the scent of MdC Vetiver. I know what it is supposed to smell like but I’ll be hanged if that is the way it smells right now. I believe it’ll return but for now I’m leaving this soap alone. Let’s hope! That old Merkur 34C doesn’t care how my sniffer works though. Good little razor.

Looking at that list of notes, you may get the impression that this soap smells like fruitcake. You wouldn’t be far off. In fact, parts of it remind me of holiday candy, peanuts in praline to be exact. Sugary, creamy, with a few tart notes on top, the tobacco note is mixed up with just enough moss and resin to keep it from going full-on gourmand. It’s a good holiday scent, and it’s surprisingly dressy. I could happy wear it with a suit. And that’s why I chose this soap for my next big read, The Hound of the Baskervilles. Holmes was a man of many disguises, but for the most part he solved his mysteries in a frock coat and a top hat. I think he would have liked the soft tone of this fragrance. But I don't know what's going on with the label. Looks like Will's reviving the Dead.
