Like Nero said the other day, having a lot of shaving stuff is great fun … until it’s not. For nearly eight years I’ve been sorting through heaps of soap, shuffling through boxes of razors, bumbling through a jumble of brushes almost every day – it gets to be a little distracting. What I’m trying to say is, it’s time to give it all a rest, at least for a little while. Instead of constantly rotating through all this gear looking for the optimal arrangement, maybe I’ll just stick with the kit I used today. The razor is mild, the brush is trusty, and the soap lathers under nearly any conditions. Let’s hope this gentle set up will help me focus entirely on technique.

(Don't worry, though, resolutions like this never last long with me. I can still hear the siren song of all those fantastic soaps I've packed away. It won't be long before my will is broken.)

For last night's shave, I went with the potentially discontinued Mick's Grooming Tomas. A decadent Tobacco Vanilla, with the perfect helping of spices. Just a wonderful soap scent.

On a personal note... I'm so sad to see it out of stock. I use this sparingly, in hopes they'll re-release it. It's been so long, I'm not even sure they're staying in the soap game at all. [Image: e2ab9cee1f35f2fb2fc17f34ad0acf4f.jpg]

I don't know why vendors think it's a good idea to show a page of "Sold Out" product.

Well, I don't know what the other option would be besides removing the item. If they remove it, to me, it says it's no longer being sold. I'd prefer the item to stay, but perhaps with a notice it's coming back soon ("restocking... check back in 2 weeks"). That may be unreasonable, though. Still, it's better than 'Sold Out'.

Now, of course that very well may be the case here. Mick's has been doing the 'end of batch' sale for a long time. Nothing new has been added and all of the soaps have taken a HUGE price drop.

Time will eventually tell what's going on. In the meantime, I'll hedge my bets and keep an eye on the BST.

An occasional bowl of Chicken Soup for the Soul is part of a healthy diet Bouki.  Everything grows in its own time.

Really?  That long?

- Just kidding.  I'm walking down the Bouki trail myself - in a limited way, and at my own pace.   Wink

I know. I know.  I said I was done with the Eucris but darned if I don’t like the scent and man I love loading from a puck so……I grated it and combined it with a lump of Doms Sir Henrys No.13 unscented ive had kicking around for years.  The Sir Henrys is pliable like old playdoh so I worked the Eucris soap curls into it as I wet me fingers to add a bit of moisture.  I added about half and half and when I was done grating and kneading I had a lime sized lump of soap about the consistency of Silly Putty with the scent of Eucris.  Well sirs, Dom saved the day.  Zero scent off the old No.13 and it’s amazing performance added to the amazing scent of the Trumpers with its crummy performance and brother let me tell you, I am in business.  It was always slick but had zero cushion.  The Sir Henrys supplied that and more.  So now I have no idea what to call it.  Sir -Trumpers or Geo. F. Henrys?  Perhaps No.13 Eucris?  So glad I get to use the scent but still miffed at Trumpers to tell me “we have had few others complain of performance issues.” I’m not Jolene’s brightest boy by a far piece but come on man, anyone who owns a brush can tell you trumpers hard soaps are junk.

Well now,  I hope your Wordsworthesque brain can continue to pump out that free form poetry we have all gained a hankering for.  If not we may have to have an intervention by sending boxes of soaps and creams to prime the pump as it were?  But I get it.  This hobby I have gobs of “stuff” but in my whitewater hobby I still use rafts from the early 90s because I like the way they track better than the new fangled ones I have to row when clients are aboard.  I still carry the same pocket knife I’ve had for 40 years. well, not the same knife because I’ve lost it a time or two but the same style and make of knife although I have to find the old thing on the secondary market.  And given our endless wave of dropping soap makers, I’ve chosen to support a few rather than all.  Good luck in your venture my friend.
