The lather is ok and more than serviceable. If you're looking for a yogurt-like concoction, this wouldn't be my 1st choice. But it lathered very easily and provided good cushion and decent slickness. The scent on this one (Pomegranate & Wood) is the star of the show!
I received the Pedro Fiasco soap in the Coconut (with Tonka) scent.
Haven't used it yet but passes the sniff test!

Yes it did! It was weird...kinda like it had overheated/melted and soaked the wrapping and label. Did you order one as well?

The tallow-based Phoenix & Beau Imperial Rum shaving soap performed well for a three pass shave. My norm lately is only two passes, so I selected a soap I thought would do me right on a third go. My inexperienced honker likes this scent, more refined than my Col Conk bay rum. I love the label and tried to get a shot that showed off the shiny octopus!
I too like Phoenix and Beau. You inspire me sir to dig out the Spitfire, Oberon, and Boreal.

I always get scolded this time of the year for purchases so I’m trying to hold back. Had to get the Tundra tho and Declaration’s Rose Santal….which is my next post..(12-11-2021, 03:17 AM)ExtraProtein Wrote: AlanH81 was kind enough to send me a generous sample of Tundra Artica soap and packet of balm. It’s amazing. The Agar in it is a variant I’ve not schmelt before. Very complex, in addition to the Agar, it’s Orangey/Amber/Patchouli-ish
I’ll give it another go again late Sunday. This may finally be the SV I like. I haven’t been keen on the few I’ve tried. Anyone use this on the reg?
Tundra Artica is fantastic! Have you tried Stella Alpina or Flying Mango? Tundra and Stella are my two favorite SV scents but Flying Mango is a close 2nd
Another AlanH81 sample
The scent of this one goes up there with Wholly KAW’s C. Rose Concerto scent, it’s rose, but it’s NOT ROSE
I really don’t do rose soaps, it’s NOT my cuppa. This one is a Sandalwood, Pepper, Rose and maybe a splash of Vanilla/Cardamom, and a sweet Amber? I only have a sample so I can’t really go back to grab whiffs….Scent is spot on FANTASTIC!
One thing I’ve noticed….does anyone feel the Milksteak Base doesn’t have the same Phantom Lather as the Icarus base, idk, maybe it’s me and I need to finally convert to the Milksteak Base? I’ve been using my Icarus Based Soaps and only purchasing new balms. Cushion and lubrication is premium. Once I get my hands on a kit ll revisit this post….
Now here is an interesting and odd scent. Mr. Tommy Carioca, knowing my penchant for smoke and esoteric scents gifted me this tub of Grooming Department Molten and I certainly thank him. This is not a simple scent by any means but I haven’t spent time to look up what’s in there. Main note for me is the tar and I suspect it’s birch tar because it’s not pine. Birch tar takes me to Alaska and we’re that the only note that’s where I’d be but top notes of citrus and a dose of oak moss and it’s not plane Alaska anymore. Would I wear a cologne that smelled like this? Nope. But the soap scent is interesting enough to keep me going for sure. I had a bum experience with Grooming Department early on and never felt a need to continue. In fact, until this gift I had no Grooming Department soaps in the herd. Frankly,I was surprised how much better this soap worked than the earlier stuff. Really impressed. Thanks Tommy.
