Just confirmed what I already knew mentally: the Kaizen formula is the best for my shaves.

I intentionally picked a Kaizen soap bc I just received the Blackbird razor a few days ago and for my second shave with it, I knew I had to give my most protective, most successful soap base a whipping. Perfect shave.

And in contrast to Bouki's choice this evening, this has some sweetness, as most all A&E scents do.

One thing is better than mountain air: mountain river air. Nothing else is so crisp and clean and refreshing.

This ancient tub of Crowne and Crane Spruce scent lives in my travel dopp bag.  It, an old Gillette Superspeed, the “Acorn” brush gifted to me by my son during a super tough financial time in his life, and a small jar of Shea butter will be most of my shaves when I’m on the road and buddy, Marriott knows my name!  The brush will never leave me because it was a heartfelt gift from a kid who had no money, was living in a distant town alone while his family lived with me, working to establish his place in the company.  Those days still seem raw and fresh although they are far in the rear view.  Funny to look at this brush compared with the Teton Shaves brushed he makes now but this rough and rawboned one is my favorite.  The razor was found in an antique store probably in Pennsylvania and I like it’s familiarity.  The spruce soap has seen a lot of miles and although it’s only one note (Spruce), it is predictably awesome in all water I throw at it and the spruce scent reminds me of home when I’m away.  The scent has me cutting firewood, or trimming a neighbors blue spruce branches.  It’s no-nonsense nature is grounding and comfortable like a weighted blanket.  I don’t know  what I’ll carry when this tub is done but I think it’ll be a simple scent that reminds me of home.

Sixty swirls is probably fifty too many for a cream as soft as this, but today’s heavy load really did result in a fantastic lather. So what if I get only twenty shaves out of this tub. They will have been rich and regal. I washed it all down with a liberal dose of 4711. Feeling posh and pampered now.

Tommy, without disclosing anything that might lead to criminal investigation, can you tell me a little about Black Afgano, please? I've been eyeing it for years. Do I need a bottle, or can I keep getting by with my thirty-dollar Encre Noir?

Bouki - as you well know, it is infamous for supposedly having that ghanja note. I don't get that. It is an awesome oud blend with an 'addictive' drydown. I love it, and bought 2 back up bottles as I have been using it a lot. It pairs well with Taco bell and cheetos.

Seriously, my strongest recommendation to buy. If you don't like it, I will take it off you're hands.
