What soap/cream did you use today?

Christmas for me is a magical season filled with a whole bunch of time with family.  We generally get together as a whole clan on the even years but we still have a bunch on the odd years too.  This year we will host three of my five kids families, so not bursting at the seams but close.  All of them will spend some time with us over the holiday though.  Mickey Lee’s Through the Woods smells like Christmas Morning to me.  Conifer, spices, baked good sweetness.  It’s that calm time early in the morning when the house is quite, grandma has some pot of spices simmering to fragrance the air, the tree is lit, Santa is everywhere, and the Nativity on the mantle beckons to remember the reason for the Holiday.  Shortly the quite of the room will be shattered with glee and delight as grandkids awake to Santa’s trove.  But for now, right now, the room is dark but for the tree, the sky outside is sparkling with a billion stars, and everything is right in my world.

Wow, just wow! I'm a new guy here and no offense to everyone else's mighty fine contributions to the forum...but Lipripper660 and Bouki are must reads. These two fine fellows just have a way with words that paint images in my brain! And all of this is going on in the soap thread; of course with no offense meant to the soap thread!

Old Sarge,  it's really great to have you on board! Welcome to the DFS soap-of-the-day thread, one of the better kept secrets in all shavedom. You'll meet a lot of really nice guys here, and you'll see a lot of fantastic soaps. Some of us post pictures, a few of us write a little note, and some simply list the soap we used today. It's all good, and it's all welcome. Post when you feel like it, or if it's easier, just browse what others have posted. This is an easy going, low-key thread. I think that's what's kept it going for so long.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am now a thread subscriber. Also being new to the wet shaving world, I've started with many of the utilitarian soap options. I'll post when I have something worth sharing about my day's lather. Thanks again!

Barrister’s Reserve Classic (Barrister & Mann) citrus, lavender, moss, & sandalwood

Classic is Barrister & Mann’s resuscitation of Gillette’s Sun Up fragrance. It’s loaded with citrus and a smoldering heap of moss, and it’s definitely not for wimps. In fact, back in the summer of 1967, when Gillette marketed Sun Up, they described it as a “manly, non-flowery scent.” The message was clear. Long-haired layabouts, summer of lovers, and namby-pamby snowflakes need not apply. Sun Up was a fragrance for the real man, the one who turns his nose up at the unwashed peaceniks in the park, the man who’s not afraid of the fougère, even if he can’t pronounce it. What a gas.

I wish more folks would spend time here.  In fact Bouki was the reason I have been stopping in.  The guy is a wordsmith no doubt but I’ll tell you sarge, all the folks who participate on this thread are amazingly helpful and several PMs have helped me out.  Glad your here and hope you stick around.

Ariana and Evans - Asian Pear (Kaizen)

Just confirmed what I already knew mentally: the Kaizen formula is the best for my shaves.

I intentionally picked a Kaizen soap bc I just received the Blackbird razor a few days ago and for my second shave with it, I knew I had to give my most protective, most successful soap base a whipping. Perfect shave.

And in contrast to Bouki's choice this evening, this has some sweetness, as most all A&E scents do.



One thing is better than mountain air: mountain river air. Nothing else is so crisp and clean and refreshing.
