What happened to the red-eye flight full of leather clad coffee drinkers and waves of nausea?  Sounds like you’ve turned a major corner here?  What inspired you to hang on with this scent?
Lipripper660, I've peeped around the corner, but I'm not sure I'm ever going to make a full turn. I've been trying to zero in on what annoys me with this soap. The label? It looks like black ink and bath water, but I can live with that. (Kinda wish Will had stuck with the old blue and white label, though. I liked the nautical theme.) That strong sugary note? Yep, that makes me slightly queasy every time I lather up. I don't even leave the lid off this puck, since it fills the room with a cloying sweetness. Luckily, temperatures are falling, and that takes the edge off the cream-n-sugar note when I lather up. And apart from these saccharine bits, I actually like the rest of the fragrance. The sandalwood is spicy, the coffee is bitter, and the leather is warm and cozy.

But mostly I'm using this soap because of its name. (Has Bouki lost it!?!) If I weren't reading Moby Dick, I probably wouldn't keep hanging with Leviathan. But that big fish figures so prominently in this book, I can't justify putting it down. After all, I'm fixated on the notion of using just one soap for each book I pick up. So, as long as the Pequod is still afloat, I'm going to try to stick with Leviathan

(And there's this to be said, too: the Omnibus base is fantastic. It can throw a pretty heavy blanket over even a thousand minor annoyances.)

So this evening I grabbed a tub of Mick's Grooming Tomas soap. A great sweet tobacco and spices fragrance. From their website:

a blend of tobacco leaf, spices, dried fruit and vanilla. Several well known men's colognes from famous designers come to mind.

I inquired with the owner about the scent. Apparently it is inspired by but not a duplicate of TF's Tobacco Vanille.

I've been trying to figure out if anyone has tried this and Haverford who could tell me if they are the same or similar scents. I don't need a duplicate scent, but if Haverford is different enough, I might pick it up as well.

Nonetheless, it is a wonderful soap - great sweet tobacco / dessert like aroma. [Image: 858983132571ca0f01675368ec5782e4.jpg]

Great lather - classic gents fragrance. I like it but don't love it [Green Irish Tweed].

I’ve been meaning to try Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber literally for years.  The name conjures up some serious leather and brush and perhaps an astringent scent or two.  I finally remembered to get a tub and SURPRISE!  None of the images I had in my head are true.  This scent is clean as a whistle with citrus on top, basil, a bit of leather and a hint of wood.  I don’t know what white patchouli smells like but I do know patchouli and I don’t get any.  I also know gunpowder and I don’t get any of that.  I do know that a well blended scent takes some real training to discern individual notes and I must say this is a really nice scent even if the “ghost town” moniker threw me off for a bit.  I mean a really lovely scent!  The “ghost town” bit may have arrived in the form of a really dry finish but you know I really don’t care so much about that.  A little Shea plus a slap of Ghost Town  aftershave and I’m right as rain.  I used a badger/boar, wood handled brush and an ancient Gillette new Long Comb to add to the Ghost Town effect.
