What soap/cream did you use today?

When I passed the jar to my wife, she took a sniff and said “Bit-O-Honey.” Then I took a smell and thought “Mmmmm, Boston Baked Beans.” I think Barrister & Mann were aiming to create the scent of a posh library. But instead of books, oak, and leather, what we got – at least at first – was something more like a sweet shop. (I’ve smelled this toasted praline accord in some other soap. Seems like Wholly Kaw’s Man from Mayfair struck me the same way.) I took another sniff and this time I picked up a good dose of Will’s mousse de saxe. This semi-bitter accord of licorice, leather, vanilla, and iodine holds everything in balance and keeps this fragrance from toppling headlong into the world of gourmand scents. It also transforms that sweet first impression into something mellower. It's still full of toasted nutty notes, but now it's accompanied by light leather, gauzy tobacco, and a trail of soft powdery scents. I like the results. In fact, I could use The Full Measure of Man every morning through the cooler parts of the year.
