What soap/cream did you use today?

Fine Lavender Pour Homme

An awesome scent, a great performer, and it will be missed whenever it's finally gone (I have about 5oz left). I don't understand why this scent didn't make the cut, but it's my favorite of theirs for sure.

I’ve taken to freezing my face before I shave. I grab a gel pack from the freezer and lap it across my face for five minutes. We all know how important preparation is to a good shave. For most of us, that means a hot shower. But sometimes all that hot water overheats my skin, making it too soft and tender. The razor blade digs in and leaves me with nicks and divots. The frozen gel pack, though, reduces the swelling, tightens the skin, and inspires happy alpine thoughts. When it comes time for the scraping, the blade seems to glide more easily across my chilled cheeks. And after the final rinse, everything seems to calm down more quickly.

Credit for today's fine shave also goes to the soap, of course. These old Fine soaps take more water than I have the strength to give them. Their lather is just gorgeous. And the scent? One of the best sandalwoods out there – spicy and woody without too many other distractions.

Look at that most awesome presentation for a soap.  That black bowl is by all estimation a most classic container.  It was said that the sun never sets on the British Empire and in colonial days that was in fact true.  And Britain was at the height of her powers when Geo F. Trumper opened his shop.  But when a company forgets that customer experience is a huge part of the process the wheels fall off the bus and this bus has been listening to know-nothing bean counters for far too long.  What was good about this experience?  Well, the Eucris scent is most amazing.  I truly love it.  The presentation bowl is a classic.  The soap inside however is not a shaving soap and has not been for years now.  I am sure Trumpers has received notice from consumers that their current triple milled offering is crap but thus far they have failed to make the decision to do as others have (Floris for one) and reformulate to a useable product.  
My experience was more akin to a magic show than a shave.  The lather was “chunky” as opposed to creamy in texture and when I applied a brush to my cheeks the magic happened!  I would build a semi-useable lather on one cheek and move to the other and literally in under ten seconds the first cheek looked as though I had never worked it with a brush.  MAGICAL! Sure, there was slickness but zero cushion.  Could I shave with it?  Yes, I suppose I could but The Who process was so distracting as to totally throw off any shaving zen the scent would have lead me to.  What will I do with this soap?  I’ll likely keep it as a visual aid for talks I get invited to offer at the high school on what happens when a business ignores economic principles.  Boy, that sucks.

Dragonsbeard at Ethos made me a custom DFS Colonia in his new F base for an upcoming 2 month+ trip to Europe. I only bring one soap..and this is going to be it. Gave it a spin this morning and it’s outstanding! He told he will be releasing this version shortly.

Damn right Bouki. Stuff is wonderful.

BTW, I run a hockey puck sized I've cube over my ugly mug pre-shave and use cold tap water during the shave to preclude the same irritation and redness you spoke of.
