What soap/cream did you use today?

Another fabulous shave with their soaps. The soft scent of this is comforting and mesmerizing, from a more innocent time. Fitting I suppose, as today would have been my grandmother's 88th birthday. Love forever.



Took today off to get the dog out of the house while the crew chipped the tree branches in the driveway. Now just a memory.

Not confident would characterize ABC a marzipan scent: it almond but not sweet to my nose

The tenth ingredient in this soap is xylitol. What’s that? “Xylitol is a carbohydrate found in the birch tree and several kinds of fruit. It has a chemical structure that looks like a cross between a sugar and an alcohol, but it is neither.” This according to webmd. It’s used as a sugar-free sweetener. You may have bumped into it in your toothpaste. I’m not sure what it’s doing in a tub of shaving soap. It may hamper the growth of some bacteria, so perhaps it’s being used as a preservative.

Only a few more shaves left in it. I think it used to be a cream, but now it's more on the "soapy" side of "croap".

You're right... I was thinking the ABC cream. The soap is almond (still not interested though haha ).

Williams Mug Soap

Earlier today was Varen by Stirling Soap Company.

Varen means fern, and sure enough this scent is a *huge* old school oakmoss infused fougere.  When I say “huge” I mean it…. Stirling has packed some of the largest amount of oakmoss I have ever encountered, and it dominates the soap.  I absolutely *adore* oakmoss, so it will come as no surprise I love this scent, but even I was taken aback at first by its sheer strength.  The scent has a very rustic, rough around the edges quality that I like, but may put off some looking for more polish.

Performance is typical Stirling (though this soap features a mutton tallow base)… very solid, if just short of spectacular performance that offers terrific value.  I coupled it with the Varen aftershave, and that is some strong stuff too!
