My youngest son of 3 signed with the Phillies.... a very stressful week. He has been through a lot: 3 arm surgeries including Tommy John, ripped oblique, shoulder impingements, tender hip. He went 14-3, ERA 2.3, 153 KOs, WHIP 1.11, 35 walks, 138 innings for his career at Oklahoma State University - with 2 big 12 titles, made the NCAA tourney all 4 years. He was old [24.5] for the draft per his injury riddled first 2 years - and still had 2 years of college eligibility left. Covid hit his 4th year - and he almost signed as an UDFA with the Angels. But he finished school [year 5] and met a great gal. He really enjoyed his last year in Stillwater playing in the new stadium, with coaches Matt & Josh Holliday and Robin Ventura. Met President Bush pre-game last spring. Tom Holliday was instrumental in getting him signed. BTW, I am an OU graduate school grad. Orange breaks me out in hives.

Last week's shaves :

Esbjerg Verbena
Fine American Blend
Declaration Grooming 88 Chestnut Street
Antica Barbiera Colla hard puck

Clay Face

Mogno Cream v. (Ach. Brito) dark woody cologne
Shave 4 ・ 92% left

Go easy on the water at first. This cream starts off slightly hydrophobic. If you get a bubbly mess, work it with your brush for five minutes. It will come together to make a fine unctuous lather. I ended up liking the performance. The scent is fine too, but it would probably work better for me if the weather were cooler and I were in a cabin on the side of a mountain. The wood and herbs smell like an evening late in autumn. In fact, I really enjoyed Mogno back in January. In July it might be a little too much. This one will stay in the herd, but it may be corralled until winter.

Now, this doesn't have anything to do with Mogno or Ach. Brito. This is all about online vendors who re-sell products made by other artisans or companies. If you're ever tempted to buy software at clearance prices, be prepared to receive some really hoary stuff. Three times now I've shopped the clearance rack, and each time I've been astonished at by what my vendor considered worthy to sell – dusty old soaps over a decade old, pucks so dry they weighed only a quarter of their labeled weight, and now some truly ancient aftershave. Yesterday I got a bottle of Esbjerg Grapefruit Aftershave Cream for half price. It was sold by a secondary vendor, not by Esbjerg. I thought I had scored a real bargain until I turned the bottle over and saw the Best Used by Date was 12/2015. Shouldn't that have been pulled off the shelves at least five years ago? It doesn't smell like grapefruit anymore. Instead it has a mild creamy scent that may be slightly off. I can't quite decide. Still does a good job of moisturizing. But all the same, the stuff's probably been in its bottle for about seven years. I'm not sure what's more astonishing: the stability of the aftershave, or the shamelessness of the seller.

It's a lot of pressure being a dog. If you don't sniff every square inch and every blade of grass, other doggies talk about you behind your back.

Nero gets an "A" for effort today:

I think it means "best post-shave ever" in some other language, and my second use with it has been splendid, even as I just did a quickie 1.5 pass.

Really, this formula deserves more attention and I have no doubt it is coming.

That said, I've only used this one scent so far. Will be trying more.

First use of the Tusk base the last couple weeks. Agree on all counts with our friend in Colorado. The post shave is exceptional. Remarkable soap base.
