We've all been there...when you pass by a bad accident and you don't really want to look, yet you do anyway because of curiosity. That's what this is this in scent form to me. The first time I used it, I told myself "No way. Can't do it.". So it sat. Every so often I'd open the jar and take a whiff. Nope...still didn't care for the scent. But, was the scent seeming less obnoxious? Maybe. Today was probably only the third time I've lathered it up. I still don't love it. Hell, I don't even know if I like it. Any normal person would've gotten rid of it right away if they didn't like the scent. The word "normal" doesn't apply here. You just know I'll try it again.

The Full Measure of Man has a syrupy note that is off-putting to me.  Because of this, I feel pretty much the way you do about this scent.  I think that B&M has gotten some negative feedback about the scent judging from the reviews I see in the forums.  With that said, the performance of this soap is top tier and the balm is great (for a balm).  When I first received the soap, one of my shaving pals lukester who had also ordered the soap  asked me if I had actually used it: "You actually shaved with it? Sad Your a better man than I ! May be the worst scent I have smelled in a soap. Will probably just trash mine."  Now that made me laugh.  I still have mine and have actually used it more than once.  I am certainly not a better man than lukester,  just dumber.
I was really excited for this one when it came out and jumped on it right away. There are some notes in there that I really like. But, yeah…maybe syrupy is the best term for the one note (maybe the Mousse de Saxe?). It’s that note that constantly jumps out at you.
I saw some of the negative reviews, but am surprised at how many people seem to love it. There’s no question about the performance. Absolutely wonderful. Agreed on the balm too. Great stuff. The only drawback of the balm is it seems the scent is much more concentrated.
I think lukester is the smart one. His remark to you is rather funny.
Like you, I’m just dumb enough to use it again. BUT - I certainly won’t use it when I think there’s a chance for some close quarters combat with the bride. She was just a few feet away from me a little while after my shave. Out of the blue she just said “You stink!”

Woke up this morning to an Excessive Heat Warning……the only course of action to take to save myself was to immediately lather up with Ethos Peppermint…

Much, much better reaction from wifey today. Completely unsolicited, she said "You smell nice!". Sure beats a "You stink!" any day of the week.

In a world where scented men’s products often reminds me of the flamboyance of 70s women’s eye shadow, garish blues and greens and disco glitter, and has me humming Confederate Railroads Trashy Women.  Hahaha.  Anyway, one thing I enjoy about the British Scent Houses is their constraint.  (Well, Cyril Salters Vetiver aside).  Scents are balanced and nuanced and wonderful and of those DR Harris has three that are delightful.  Marlborough, Windsor, and Arlington.  Today’s shave is a brand new puck of Arlingtons citrusy wonderment and I like it almost as much as I like Windsor.  Paired with a Teton Shaves brush that is not too overstuffed and a Merkur razor and things looked beautiful.
