It's been quite a while since I shaved with a bay rum scent, but Sir Henry's was fun.  I'm by no means the biggest bay rum fan, but I liked the scent of both the soap and aftershave, and both did a fine job for me tonight.  Also, clove and cinnamon are among the opening notes, but dominicr has apparently figured out some kind of olfactory legerdemain to pull that off without any real clove or cinnamon.  So those of you with bay rum allergy problems may find Sir Henry's an especially appealing way to go.

One other thing ... Props go to ExtraProtein, whose recommendation a few pages back pointed the way down this happy trail.
So true, you get little hints of spices without that spice burn.  Appreciate the props, the real winner is Dominic and his Crew on a job very well done.  This is one of those kits you’ll pass by open the container and breathe.  I have no idea why I do this, but I do!

Before they lay me, cold and boney, into that new pine box, I hope one of my relatives will have the good sense to pass a razor one last time across my cheeks and chin. And let the lather be Mike’s Vetiver, because I want to wake up on resurrection morning feeling as immaculate as I do right now. This is one of those soaps that leave you wondering why you even look at anything else. Slick and sweet smelling (without getting all la-di-da), Mike’s Vetiver builds a lather that will last the eternities. Mike calls this a ‘natural’ soap because that’s how it leaves you feeling, as clean and smooth as you felt when you came howling into this world.

I love to take all Mike’s Natural to the cheese grater.  I feel it opens the scent up to its max potential and create’s much more churned goodness when grated into my lather bowl

Lately in the evening we've been burning a lot of Byakudan Kobunboku (Baieido) - a nice sandal with a good bit of 'cherry blossom' thrown in. And it's cheap! In the morning I burn Hinoki (Nippon Kodo) - hinoki cedar. Clean, bright, and fairly light, it's a good start to the day.

I also really like these sandalwood incenses:
  • Fuin Byakudan (Minorien) - a distinct wet & creamy sandal. Definitely Australian sandal but with some other really good other stuff blended in.
  • Renzan (Tennendo) - a spicy sandal & aloes blend. We burned a lot of this at Christmas.
  • Kuukai (Tennendo) - rich, deep sandal and lots of aloe. Stuff's expensive, but it smells fantastic. Very rich, very woody, very nice.
  • Ranjatai (Shunkohdo) - this is expensive, so we save it for special occasions like when the power goes out, or our internet connection dies, or our eyes just get too tired to look at another screen. It's a rich, spicy, wonderful stick of aloes with some sandalwood and spice.
  • Seiai (Kyukyodo) - a sandalwood blend. The good people at Japanincense.com sent me some sample sticks with my last order. It's really growing on me!
  • Kyoto Moss Garden (Shoyeido) - this one's cheap, but it still smells great. I burn a stick whenever I'm cleaning. Nice diversion.
ExtraProtein, do you burn incense? If so, what do you like?

Yesterday afternoon's shave was with an old friend.  I ended up trading my Exotic Elemi a year or so ago but was recently pif'd a puck...maybe even the one I traded Smile  I had regretted trading it almost immediately after dropping it off at the post office.  Thankfully, it is back in the den

Grooming Dept. "Maleki" again. I loaded heavy and kept adding water. A glorious batter was achieved. There was enough hydration incorporated that some of the lather ran down the brush handle, onto the countertop. Another "melting ice cream" type of lather. Perfect slickness and density with a wonderful sheen. Everything about this morning's shave was sublime.
