What soap/cream did you use today?

Thanks to Nero I got my hands on a tub of AOS Rose.  I’ve always loved roses.  I love the way they look.  I love the way they smell.  I totally dig the wild roses that grow along Cassia Creek.  I love seeing and smelling the Alaskan roses when I’m flipping flies at salmon.  I really enjoy the orange and yellow varieties of pioneer roses growing in huge clumps along old fence rows, planted generations ago and still offering beauty for me and food/shelter for numerous animals.  So decidedly I am a Rose fan.  Problem is most roses smell so artificial, like Tang is to Oranges.  Ain’t nobody got time for that!  I won’t provide names of makers of the Rose scented products I have tried but were I being paid consulting fees I would recommend hey not offer them anymore.  AOS though!  The scent is a very pleasant and natural Rose.  Very lightly scented in my tub but a true Rose and the performance is so very predictable.  Glad it’s here at my place and glad to have a Rose that does the bloom honor.  Hurray! (And it’s discontinued....)

A proper Bay Rum Kit should be a staple in every Gent’s Den

Good Bay Rum should be middle of the road strength of scent.  It shouldn’t be overpowering but should stay with you most of the day.  A proper BR has an easily identifiable sweet, woody and spicy scent.  Pimenta Racemosa should be in the ingredient list, if it’s NOT, you might want to rethink your choices.  Sir Henry’s Island Estate ingredients list reads “Fragrance.”  Is it possible to achieve this wonderful scent without? I truly don’t know, that’s a question for the folks at Sir Henry’s, though I doubt Pimenta Racemosa was left out.  Many Artisan’s leave their scent profile ingredient list out to protect their hard work, I don’t blame them.  When you have perfection, why give it away? 

Sir Henry’s Bay Rum in my opinion is Perfect.  I used my first one over the entire 2020-2021 winter and recently purchased a second.  The bay in Island Estate is abundant.  The spicy/peppery allspice is complimented by a hint of Bergamot and Patchouli.  Vanilla/Coconut smooths it all out. There could be a lemon-y/lime-y fern note at the bottom but I can’t quite put my finger on it, definitely citrus. That’s all I get, I don’t get any clove/cinnamon in this one nor do I want it.  This soap needs clove/cinnamon like a good steak needs a condiment, NO THANK

Lip, my tub of this highly esteemed cream arrived yesterday too. As soon as the mail lady brought the parcel, I opened it and passed the tub to my wife. She twisted off the cap, clutched the tub close, took a deep sniff, kinda purred, and then turned away from me. When I reached out my hand so I could smell it too, she growled the way my Rhodesian Ridgeback pup did when I tried to take away his bone. Thanks for telling me what Rose Absolute smells like, because I'm never going to see this tub again.

I also got one of these the other day off ebay. Your right it is a very light scented Rose.  I believe they are probably using a Rose essential oil10% dilution. I highly doubt there’s Rose Otto Absolute in the soap at between $700 to $900 and oz.

It’s a great for a nighttime shave. Very relaxing. Have to compare it side by side with MDC as it’s the only Rose I kept for the same reasons you mentioned as some I had were to synthetic smelling for my nose.

What I’m wondering is was this made by Volabra for AOS. Was firmer than any of my other vintage AOS creams.

That is the issue of our time, many make claims that are impossible financially (presuming they not losing incredible amounts of money on every sale)

Well if I was using the average I use with EO’s to do a 4oz jar of shave soap I’d need 0.24 oz so basically a 1/4 of an oz.. now there is a way to cut that down as I’ve already given thought to this because I have a customer that wants a custom Pure Rose Otto shave soap. So I have a way I believe that could cut the cost down a bit. For now I’ll keep that one to myself but it would still be 100% pure Rose Otto Absolute. 
Just checked pricing Eden Botanicals at $899 an oz. so do the math. So cost of Absolute is $225.00 for the aroma. 

So when I see Rose Absolute or let’s say Boronia Absolute or a number of other super high priced EO’s and Absolutes on the ingredient label and the soap sells for $20 I’m like ok that’s financially impossible unless they got it for free or stole it Lol. 
 Probably using either a candle or soap making fragrance oil or maybe Aroma Isolates ( which can be pretty expensive ) Im sure it’s only on there for label claim only and probably in the formula at a vaporous level at best. In the cosmetic industry we refer to that as “ Blessing the batch “ 

So anything can be made as long as people are willing to pay the cost of the finished product. Being in this industry for over 27 yrs I was taught and learned that there’s a difference between reality and marketing. 

So with 1 oz I could make four 4 oz jars and using my little trick I could probably get the scent strength up there so it really speaks to you.

That's where my curiosity was coming from .  How much was going to cost to obtain a "true" rose scented shave soap with good scent strength?  Granted, it would be expensive and well outside my comfort zone, but I'm guessing there are four wet-shavers out there that would pay the $250 for a 4 oz tub.  At that price point, you'd be paying of for the exclusivity-element as well.
