I had to scrape all the soap from the sides and smash it into the middle of the tub.  The picture below was taken prior to loading today's shave.  Maybe two more shaves (depending on how much I can load) and Lit may finally be done

This morning was more about the razor than the soap.  Man, I do love the Merkur Futur and seem to be one of the few who does.  Whacked a puck of Cold River Sheep’s Milk this morning.  I’m not a huge fan of their stuff most of the time.  Had a tin of Olivia that was amazing in that an olive oil soap generated copious amounts of very nice shaving lather vs the usual thin/dissipating olive oils I tried in the past.  Several others I tried just didn’t “feel” right so I moved on.  But this one.....it’s a puck man!  Had to try it and it treats me right.  Feels great.  It’s scent is a nod to Mitchell’s I believe and is pleasant but I like Mitchell’s better.  At any rate, a guy could sure do worse than this soap.

The other day I drew up a list of my favorite soap bases. The usual wet-&-heavy suspects were there: Declaration Grooming, Tallow+Steel, Grooming Dept, Saponificio Varesino. But one base I forgot to mention was Barrister & Mann’s Glissant. For several years, this has been my benchmark for what a good soap should be. Not so hard you wear out your brush loading from it, not so soft that it turns to sludge after a few uses, its texture hits that Goldilocks spot. And its lather is among the very slickest. I think I still prefer Glissant to Barrister & Mann’s Excelsior or Reserve bases (although I secretly prefer the ‘white label’ base to them all). And like all of Barrister & Mann’s bases, Glissant has one other important virtue: it doesn’t smell of anything but the fragrance. There’s nothing oily or animalic or even soapy. It’s just straight up good smelling.

Barrister & Mann: Beaudelaire (160 grams left) ・ Razorock Baby Smooth ・ Astra Superior Platinum ・ Phoenix Shaving Peregrino ・ Soap Hoard: 11,029 g ・ Used this year: 135 g

Glissant is my favorite B&M base.

Time does not spoil this soap ... It is still beautiful. The soap is already just a stone. But, what a cool, soft foam ... And all the other characteristics are just excellent. A slight chill adds a special thrill.
