Morocco t. (Tallow+Steel) cade, cade, & more cade

If you like the idea of shaving with creosote, this is the soap for you. Sappy, strong, and bitter, Morocco smells like smoke and pitch. Fans of pine tar soap should like it very much. Fans of wood-burning stoves will love it. Today, in an attempt to sweeten it up a little, I spritzed the puck with Habit Rouge, a powdery citrus rose fragrance. But Morocco was too much for it. The smoky cade swallowed up all sweet, floral notes and left me smelling like I was shaving on freshly laid asphalt.

Is the MdC finished?  I've been gone for the past few days and may have missed your post.  If it is gone, congrats!  I have 3 to 5 shaves with Lit left and then i will have a Shannon's empty tub measurement you can add to the empty container list!

BTW, Morocco may be the finest smoke-scented soap ever created.  To me, it's like an exotic smoke.  I do hope he decides to make another round of it soon.  I would love to try the first version as I have read the cade was much too strong for some.

HoosierShave, I'm sorry and a little ashamed to say that the Martin de Candre Original 50g is not finished. After a dozen shaves, I fell off the wagon. What went wrong? I'm not exactly sure, but for some reason, my skin just gave up. So, I took a few days off and gave it some thought. It seems like my hide is happiest when I use only tallow soaps or alternate between tallow and non-tallow soaps. I really like Martin de Candre's lather, but maybe it's not the best choice for me every day. This week I'll explore some of my favorite tallow soaps, and then I'll think about using Original 50g every other day until it's done.

Good luck to you on polishing off Lit! Looks like you may have it done and dusted by the weekend. I've got a tub of Haymarket Vetiver that's probably going to make an appearance soon. Shannon's soaps are very nice, and like Martin de Candre, they've got some staying power. How many shaves will you get out of your tub of Lit? (And yes, I'd be very happy to have your weight of Shannon's empty tub and lid!)

I think I must have the second version of Morocco. I got it quite a while after all the brouhaha about the first version died down. It's strong, but not so strong that I can't use and enjoy it.

dmshaver: I'm really curious about this brand, and the scent seems just right for early spring. I've been on the verge of ordering a jar several times, but every time I get to the 'Place Your Order' button, I pull back. So, please tell me, what makes it 'absolutely wonderful'? I've also heard that the lather is fairly light. Do you feel like you're getting plenty of protection when you shave?

Bouki, thank you for the question. There are several things I evaluate a shave soap for in determining how I like it. We are aware of these different categories: scent,  latherability, cushion, slickness, residual slickness, & post-shave. Ethos is, as I stated in my original post, wonderful because it has taken each of the aforementioned categories & scores a perfect 10 in each. The lather is light, you are correct, which is ideal for providing cushion & slickness (protection). The quality ingredients in Ethos give my face the best protection & post shave I have ever had.

I've used many, many brands of soaps & many bases within brands. None have given me the level of quality I've experienced with Ethos. With other soaps before I tried Ethos, I accepted less than optimal performance in at least one area because I used to think it wasn't possible to get top-tier performance in every category. With Ethos, I discovered it's possible to get top-tier performance in every category. No other soap I've used has that distinction.

I encourage you to not pull back next time you're on the Ethos site. Instead, place your order & discover Ethos.
dmshaver: many thanks to you and DanLaw for your careful evaluation of these soaps. They look like something I should try, especially since my own skin has been a little tender lately. Can you each tell what your favorite scent is?

Floris Elite current formula

Great scent... reminds me of visiting my grandparents in Florida when I was young... something in their place smelled like this.

Lathers like a beast
Perfect for a 2-pass BBS

He does this when he sees other dogs at the park... He marks his scent/possession over the frisbee by rolling on it.

I hear you, my friend...but do remember AOS/Valobra tallow started with Sodium Tallowate.

Btw, I agree with the Salter lavender soap... Excellent stuff!

Thank you Southsider! I missed that announcement and will keep my eyes open for the release.  Hopefully, the new scent doesn't stray too far from the original
