Fougère v. (Martin de Candre) peppery fougère
How do I know when my Fougère lather is ready? That’s easy. If I can still hold onto my brush, I haven’t added enough water. But when the lather becomes so slick and drippy that I need a pair of gloves to keep my grip, that’s when I know I’m reading for shearing.

Martin de Candre: Fougère (100% left) ・ Maggard V3 ・ Astra Superior Platinum ・ Phoenix Shaving Peregrino ・ Soap Hoard: 11,851 g ・ Used this year: 82 g

I like shaving treasure hunts and projects!(02-08-2021, 03:41 AM)Feb. 9th and 10th, I used Dolomiti 4.3 for my shaves on Tues/Wed and results were comfortable. Nice shaves, not very familiar with this beta formula either. This was my 3rd shave using this soap and I bought it in October. I was rotating much more than normal last year revisiting a lot old soaps in the stash. It was fun so I got to dabble a lot more and now I’ll see what I settle on for the next shave.ExtraProtein Wrote:(02-06-2021, 08:16 AM)zaclikestoshave Wrote: Desert Vetiver from SVZac, is this one very Green Citrusy sweet or a dry Spicy/Incense-y earthy Citrus? Top-Elemi, Pine Tree, Incense, Orange, Artemisia, Grapefruit, Bergamot
Body-Black Pepper, Marjoram, Juniper Berries, Origan, Geranium, Rose, Lavandin
Base-Clove, Patchoulli, Vetiver, Amber, Precious Woods, Plant Moss
ExtraProtein You asked if DV is green cirtusy and I sense more green notes and in regards to dry spice incense citrus and I think I get some incense note but more the dry spices. To be honest, the soap doesn’t come across as citrusy so far in comparison to other SV scents or other popular Italian shave soaps and colognes.
I’m not sure if you have other SV soaps, but I will try to relate some scents. In DV, there is some plant moss or greenery similar to Mirto di Sargenia but along with that I would say I smell some sweeter scents. There is a dry side to it as I think it’s a bolder or in some ways musky scent. An earthy citrus scent could be something like Manna di Sicilia and some of what I pick up is spicy orange cedarwood simply put.
Cosmo is a bit closer to what was in your post. I think is smells like dry spice, incense and earthy citrus. That scent is a bit heavier and I prefer it in the colder weather but the scent of it is a bit more approachable than Desert Vetiver right now. The scent is a bit much after a few shaves so I can revisit it again later this next week.
I keep switching back and forth between SV Desert Vetiver (last Saturday’s shave) and Dolomiti 4.3 (this morning). Performance is very nice from both so scent is really making me jump back and forth. Dolomiti is a bit nude in scent compared to the other fragrances in their other soaps. Still not warming up to the scent on DV that much. They take up water easily and make a protective lather for my skin. I am more or less daily shaving so it been easy to use just these two soaps for variety the last couple weeks.
