Yesterday's heavy/long load only resulted in 2.35 grams being used...a surprise and disappointment.  So today's load went at the remaining soap with a 30mm badger.  Maybe that denser hair will result in a larger amount being used.

Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Tundra Artica v. (Saponificio Varesino) oud sandalwood, maybe a drop of rose

I got chewed up yesterday, and I still can’t figure out why. I used the same razor I’ve used for the last month, and the same brand of blade I’ve used all week. I can’t rightly blame the soap, since I’ve used Barrister’s Reserve Fern for years with no problems. But somewhere I dropped the ball. Must have been poor technique. So today I’m on the mend with one soap I know will treat me right: Tundra Artica. This one calms a battered face and takes the bite out of the blade. I just might stick with it until I’m all patched up.

Kind of on a Brit kick of late I suppose because I chose Mitchell’s Wool Fat this morning.  I don’t know why this soap comes to mind so infrequently because it tics all the boxes for me.  Hard puck.  Awesome scent.  Great lather.  Fantastic post.  Amazing history and longevity.  I know it comes with a reputation of being difficult to lather but luckily I’ve never faced that fickle nature of this soap (but don’t doubt that others have), and have found it easy to use and stable as old Freckles, an Appaloosa mare that had no nonsense in her.  I recall a few years back discussing lather making on this forum and was reporting how I build a lather almost exclusively on top of the puck when using a hard soap.  There was a young fellow who insisted I was wasting soap by doing that and that I should load on the puck and lather in a bowl.  I giggled at the time because I knew what he didn’t know yet.  His 8 or 9 post count showed he was just starting down the rabbit hole and didn’t yet have 20 lbs of soap stashed.  I’m Guessing now he would understand that I’m not after economy but LUXURY.  I want the best lather that a soap can offer and with hard soaps that means spending time on the puck.  I enjoyed amazing lather this morning and yes, I washed two passes of left over lather down the drain when cleaning out that fattie brush.  Finished with a splash of vintage Avon Timberline.  It just seemed to fit.

What in the world is that we see?  Has it grown menthol crystal needles or is it hitting puberty?  So curious.
