This Ezra Pound poem The Garden came to my mind as a shaved this morning.  I hadn’t thought of it in two decades I am sure but the words came back to me as clear and bright as a high mountain spring morning and I was once again feeling what I felt the first time I read it. In my minds eye I could envision a too-thin woman moving through the garden, blown on the breezes of life of which she felt little control.  Her hair and clothing lending an air of sophistication and old money and.......loneliness.  Perhaps it’s the floral and herbaceous nature of the soap that triggered the memory but whatever the reason I sure enjoyed the trip.

She would like someone to speak to her,
And is almost afraid that I will commit that indiscretion.

Hahaha!  Thanks my man but I’m not a pimple on a cowboys bottom anymore and Latin is Greek to me! When it comes to edumacation, Bouki dusts me.  That guy is smart. And although I age like a fine cheese, I try to be healthy in both mind and body.  (But I still eat beef). Have a great day Daniel.  Your post made me smile.

Ezra Pound, Lipripper660! Like you, he was an Idahoan (at least to start off with). Wasn't he born just around the corner from you? And man, he loved his French poetry, especially the old stuff. When it comes to capturing the spirit of this soap, you couldn't have done better than quoting a few lines from "The Garden." What I want to know, though, is how did this poem get into your head? Is it a family favorite, something you read for a class, or just a page that was turned down in an old beat up anthology?

Olfactory Hue t. (Cold River Soap Works) oud, incense, sandal

Cold River does woods very well. Their Juniper is dry and earthy ode to the Four Corners region, Morning Ghost is a sublime vetiver, and this Olfactory Hue is a mild but authentic take on agarwood (oud). To me this soap smells a lot like good Japanese incense, not the type that’s been larded with spice, but the kind that sticks to high quality aloes and sandal. This sort of incense has a subtle austerity that’s really appealing in the cooler months. Olfactory Hue started life as a cream, but now it’s as hard as a bar of bath soap. This change in consistency hasn’t altered the performance, though. It still makes a slick lather, and thanks to the goat milk, the finish is smooth and easy. For all these reasons, I’ve added Olfactory Hue to my list of ten soaps I’m looking to finish this year. I really doubt I’ll get through all ten, but if I knock off two or three by this time next year, I’ll count it a success.
