What soap/cream did you use today?

La Fougère Parfaite t. (Wholly Kaw) Brutish fougère

I’ve been ho-hum about this soap lately. The fragrance is neither original nor especially interesting. The lather gets the job done but it doesn’t really bowl me over. Today’s two-pass shave went fine, though to be honest, it was hardly worth writing about. I was about to wash the last dab of lather down the drain when I decided to palm it instead. I drenched it thoroughly two or three times and gave it a good working with the brush when something marvelous happened: this merely satisfactory lather morphed into a gorgeous heavy emulsion that took on a stunning gloss and remarkable slickness. Where did that come from? Seems I’ve been stingy with the water up til now. La Fougère Parfaite needs lots and lots water to really shine. Give it a good drink and you’ve got world-class lather on your hands. I smeared the concoction on my face and took up the razor again. This third pass was pure comfort and closeness, just the silken glide of the blade over the skin. Now that I know how to ride this pony, I might not ever get off.
