Each time I choose this soap I am pleased.  It has been probably 20 years since I cut a live tree for Christmas, not because I begrudge cutting a natural tree but because the artificial ones got good enough to forgo the extra work of adding lights etc.  at any rate the scent of First Snow is a trip through nostalgia town.  It’s a quiet, windless day with sunshine and new snow.  It’s looking at life through the ears of a horse.  Loping up Cassia Creek where Flat Creek comes in and breaking off for the ridge above Hereford Pastures and the Forest Service cabin.  Working up through that big stand of old firs with the latigo creaking, the sound of horseshoes on stone, the feel of cold on my cheeks, and no particular reason to be out except to enjoy the day.  [Image: mFlZ0L4.jpg]

Grooming Department #4: Magnolia & Oud

Scent on this gets much better upon lathering. The floral notes come forward and mixes well with the medicinal oud note. Don't judge her by just sniffing the puck - she has to be coaxed with a brush.

Paired well with YSL M7 Oud Absolute.

Seaforth! Heather t. (Spearhead Shaving Company) fantastic fougère

Many soaps set themselves apart from the herd by offering an unusual ingredient such as sap from a far-flung tree, or oil from an exotic nut, or cold-pressed juice from a curious fruit. Spearhead is no different. The final ingredient in their soap base is agave tequilana leaf extract. This is the juice of the blue agave, the same plant used to make tequila. So what’s it doing in a shave soap? Agave extract is supposed to have moisturizing and softening properties, sort of like aloe vera. Does it work? Hard to tell. There are so many other butters, oils, and fats in this soap, how could we ever know if this one is pulling its weight? I will say this, though, the finish of Seaforth! Heather is very nice: soft without being unctuous.
