It’s been about three days and knew the Futur would be the razor but decided on a new soap for the deed. Gentleman’s Nod Zaharoff Signature is interesting because this is my first go-round with both this scent and this maker. Super low lotion-like structure and a scent that doesn’t offer me a single discernible note. The scent is complex with many players making the accord that is pleasant to my nose but just that; pleasant. It’ll never inspire me like a Sir Henrys Quartet or a Declaration Grooming Darkfall. The lather as stated is a creamy concoction that some really enjoy but I find that as makers add more and more “lotion” to the mix I enjoy the lather less and less. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fine product but not quite in my wheelhouse. My wife on the other hand loves the scent so it’s worth keeping around. I’ll mess around with it some more and see what it’ll do with more/less loading and more/less water.
I have one more shave left off of this sample of soft soap called Planet Phoenix which is a CK-6 formula from PAA. On their website, you can’t buy a soap specific to that name. If you consider the notes of this other soap called Red Planet, that is something that sounds nice or “similar” to using this sample. Douglas says this is the one they just put with the scuttle purchases and I’ve been able to shave with it about 6 times so far with nice in shave protection and easily rinses after the shave. Lately I have been putting more kokum butter on my face lately since it is cooler and drier with the weather around here. Consider mango or kokum butter as (my personal) universal pre or post shave “product.” I may want to revisit and try to purchase this soap again sometime soon for use again this winter. The scent is pretty relaxing to use for the shaves the last couple of weeks.

10 shopping days until Christmas. How I hate that mantra. It’s one of the reasons Thanksgiving supplanted Christmas for me because it’s hard to hard-sell a turkey. That said, I’ve been reviewing Christmas traditions in my clan and changing it up a bit. As you all know, for Christians,Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. For those that don’t subscribe it’s still a time for serving and caring for one another. This year my family has chosen to serve a less fortunate family. Two boys being raised by their Grandparents due to some unfortunate decisions mom and dad made. The oldest boy really made an impression when my granddaughter was new to the school. She had no friends. He made sure she didn’t eat alone or have anyone to play with at recess. He introduced her to others and made the transition easier for her. What an awesome kid. So, when the season rolled around it was natural that this young man with a ripped coat came to mind. It’s been so fun watching my 6 families fulfill needs and wants. It would be awesome to be a fly on the wall Christmas morning. And lest you think we are doing something great, that youth gave his friendship when that was really all he had. He gave me a joy and love for the season I haven’t felt in years.
And all that from a Christmas scented shave provided by B&M Dickens? It was a good one. Love that Glissant base best of all. Have a great season gents.
