When Stirling came out with the green tub a lot of folks mentioned how they didn’t like it but in the ensuing years the green tub has been a genius marketing move. Everyone knows it’s a Stirling soap without having to check the label. Speaking of labels, Stirling has done a pretty decent job of keeping them brand oriented too. I am a fan of Stirling soaps and soap base. It’s not pretentious. It’s not elitist. It’s just a super soap at a value price. My favorite offerings from Stirling generally trend to the scents that “smell like nature” and not dupes of other commercial scents. This one falls in that category. Scots Pine Sheep is simply the smell of Scots pine in their sheep tallow soap. So simply elegant. There is a hint of the sheep it’s made from but unless you’ve been around sheep a lot I don’t suppose it would be recognized. I like it because it reminds me of my first band of sheep built up from lambs picked up free at Johnny Etcheverry’s lambing sheds. Ewes usually can handle twins but many ewes have triplets and Johnny’s men would bring the weaker of the three or “bum lamb” over near the stove. Some of the lambs would be mothered up with ewes that only had a single lamb but sometimes the lamb remained in the box. I would go by and he would give me those lambs for nothing. I’d bottle feed them until spring and put them out to pasture with my other sheep. I never had more than 50 head or so but for a young kid it was pretty good walking around money. Dad got the wool money and some of the lamb money when I sold them. I’d keep the best ewes for breeding and have some lambs of my own. Tending to sheep as a cowboy lead to some ribbing but I enjoyed them and it was a break from the cows. The smell will always be in my nostrils and brings forth strong fond memories.

Beautiful day here in the Republic. Took my girlfriend out for a session of skinny dippin' in a nice watershed here in North Texas. She is a determined bird dog [GSP] and loves the water. I think we have spent more on her [training] than I have on shaving [i.e. exorbitant funding/expenditures].
