This is a very good soap. Works great. Three types of clay in the composition ...

"Ariana & Evans is a brand started by Peter Charkalis, who is passionate about the universe of perfumes and the incredible sensory power of smell." That sounds inviting! I ordered a tub of his Vetiver Magnifique, which Peter says is "one of the most magnificent scents you will ever have the pleasure of smelling." Now if you're going to talk in superlatives, you really need to follow through. Unfortunately, when I opened the lid of my new jar of soap, what I smelled was lard, very fatty and musty. In fact this 'magnificent' vetiver reminded me of the winter coat closet at grandpa's house: damp wool and dirty shoes. In other words, it smelled like straight soap base. I figured A&E forgot to add the fragrance oil to this batch. A test lather only confirmed that the scent was slight at best. So I added some of my own: 20 drops of some particularly fine vetiver oil, a milliliter of Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver, two milliliters of Lubin's Le Vetiver, and finally a milliliter of Guerlain's classic Vetiver. Another lather and at last I smelled something, barely. The soap base seems to soak up the oils and perfumes, and it doesn't release them well. I have to admit the lather itself is marvelous. It's as thick and shiny and dense as you could hope for. But the scent, if there was any to begin with, was a deep disappointment.

Vetiver kick right now so I broke out the Black Velvet.  Very very nice.  Where Salters French Vetiver is a mucky lad, Black Velvet is that same lad after mom made him get washed up for supper.  This one pays homage to vetiver while enjoying more mass appeal.  No need to be a vetiver head to enjoy this one.  Black Pepper? Sure.  But to my nose it plays a supporting role to the grass.  Top notes of lemony citrus I am sure from the vetiver itself Followed by the root scent.  The dirt note is there but I don’t get any smoke.  It has the bright top of Stirling Port au Prince, the nutty scent of Mikes Vetiver, and the earthiness of Mickey Lees Reunion.  How in the world does it get better than that?

This and Wholly Kaw have been my favorite for the summer. I actually have a hole in the soap dish of this one now. Pkays pretty well with the AG Agua de Colonia de Concentrada.

Not too bad for Wednesday.

How long will this tub last?  I enjoy seeing his face each time it rolls though on your rotation and I love the scent.  A son stole my tub a year or so ago.
