When I’m in Alaska my fires are generally birch with some black spruce mixed in. Lovely fires actually with a scent different than those at home. When Soap Commander came out with an LE Serenity Crackling Birch I thought to get it as birch fires and trees have such a place in my heart. Blind bought expecting a woody, Smokey, outdoorsy scent but was surprised to find a citrus top over a floral middle with patchouli and vetiver on bottom. Not anything near what Crackling Birch name conjured in my brain but very nice just the same. Soap Commander Serenity offers a bit more old-school fluffiness than the current super-fats do but protection and slickness are perfectly fine. I like vintage soaps so this hardish soap is right up my alley.

I've got to be careful with this soap. Every time I lather it, I get a craving for curry. It hit me hard this morning, and now I've got enough tandoori chicken and saag paneer to last a week, if not more.
How’s your lather with this? I picked up a different scent when I was in Germany. Great scent but I couldn’t get a decent lather? Any tips?

I've been getting excellent lathers from Meißner Tremonia soaps. I load a damp 24mm synthetic for a good 60 swirls and then take it to may face. I work in a few drops of water over the course of a couple of minutes using long painter strokes. Then I get earnest with the agitation swirling fast and adding more water until the lather blossoms. It comes out very thick, heavy, and protective. In fact, today I even enjoyed a three-pass shave, something I haven't attempted for weeks, and the lather gave excellent protection all the way through. What I squeezed out of the brush at the end of the shave was dense, fine grained, and as glossy as just about any tallow lather. Meißner Tremonia is really turning out to be a good hot-weather soap for me.
