An essential oils only soap featuring rosewood, lavender and vetiver.

Art of Shaving Sandalwood shaving soap (tallow). For some reason this required a lot of time and work today to make reasonably good lather.

DR Harris uber lather

I have only two sets of DR Harris soaps/creams: Sandalwood and Arlington. This Arlington is new for me: arrived yesterday. Very close to 4711 as most know.

Really slick - I think I had the best shave of the summer. I actually checked my razor head to make sure I had a blade loaded. A true ghost shave. What a great summer set. Why did I wait till I am almost dead to try this? Whew!

Some Mike's soap to finish off the week.  May be my last shave for a couple days.  I used the 37 slant a few days ago and took a small chunk out of my chin.  I haven't been able to do an XTG or ATG in that area for a few days and hoping it will heal up before Monday's shave.

Asleep at the wheel?  Been there but it’s usually my Futur that bites me.

Pretty much!  Instead of doing a straight ATG stroke, I wasn't paying attention and ended up sliding the razor a bit sideways.  The cut was about a third of inch long but, thankfully, it wasn't too deep.  Had to use the alum block and the styptic pencil to get the bleeding to stop.  The worst part is that a new soap (Dr Jon's Strange Love) arrived yesterday and I'd love to shave with it today but really think it'd be best to let the cut rest/heal.

How aggressive is the Futur?  Knowing how much you love yours, I've been thinking about picking one up

It’s a pretty hot razor even on 1.  Can’t imagine opening it up over 2.  Lots of guys dislike it so I suspected I would too but SURPRISE!.  Almost no blade feel for me.

Fougère v. (Martin de Candre) warm & green

Family and friends have consistently berated my fougère soaps for smelling too much like an 'old man'. One cousin vividly described the fragrance as 'a restroom in an old folks home'. I admit that at the beginning of my wet-shave odyssey, it took me a while to warm up to fougères. I had long memories of college dorms drenched in a reeking miasma of Brut and Drakkar Noir, but I never really got the 'old-man' vibe until I did the math and realized those days were nearly forty years ago. Thankfully this jar of Martin de Candre Fougère is a tamed and civilized interpretation of the genre.

And geez, it's already sold out at Maggard. But no one has mentioned its existence on the fora.

I haven’t seen any forum comments or reviews, either. Maggard still had some when I made the earlier post, but if they are out, you can find all the products (balm, cream, soap) on Amazon, at least for the time being.

Enjoyed your post! Time really does fly, I remember when Drakkar Noir was the modern scent…. Glad to hear Martin de Candre made a “less intrusive” fougère. Really need to try it sometime.
