What soap/cream did you use today?

SV - Tundra Artica - Bloomed the soap while i showered - loaded with a 28mm SynBad knot for 30 sec - decided to try something a little different today - face-painted/added small amounts of water for 12 minutes before I finally used a swirl motion - then proceeded to agitate/swirl for another 5 minutes

I fully admit that 17 minutes is a long time to be creating a lather.  But work has dominated my life the past couple weeks and today, despite still being crazy busy, I took the time to thoroughly enjoy the process and the scent.  And that scent....whoa!  Love it!!!

Alas, how far you have fallen Geo. F. Trumper!  Thy tallow soaps were legendary.  Thy potassium palmate fist soaps were top shelf.  Thy current shaving soap offerings stinketh to high heaven.  Thank goodness for the several pucks of good stuff I yet own.  Perhaps sometime they will admit They can do better and bring out a base that can rival olden times.  As it stands now, only DR Harris and Cyril Salter have hard puck that will satisfy. So that is the tune that plays in my brain every time I pull the Trumpers out.  Today was Violets and although it is very much floral (violets) forward, it doesn’t seem feminine to me at all.  A bit more than subtle but so sublime.  The stuff screams for a silvertip, so I obliged.

Cèdre-Patchouli v. (Le Père Lucien) soapy patchouli & tin

Another harrowing shave today. This will be my last encounter with Le Père Lucien. Early on it was wonderful, but lately each shave has been so unpredictable that I've lost my patience with it. What went wrong? I think my soaps just got too old. They seem to be at their best for about eight months. After that, they tend to seize up. The soap grows hard and no longer dissolves properly in water. The result is a thin, unprotective lather that leaves me red and raw. If you're happy shaving with the same soap day after day, gobbling up a whole tin in a matter of months, then Le Père Lucien could be a good match for you. When it's fresh, it's very good. But if you're like me, and you visit each of your soaps only once or twice a month, then this brand is probably not the most economical way to go.
