It was oft touted that when The Art of Shaving swapped its tallow soap made by Valobra for a house-made (I wonder) veg offering, that the new soap paled when compared to the old. I love the old formula so dutifully bought several backups and didn't bother checking out the new. A couple of months back I ended up with a puck of the new and……..AINT A THING WRONG WITH IT! The scent is a touch different with the newer having a touch of anise in it. Although I like the old better, these two are close enough to almost be identical. This'll offer Tommy the Santa Beard he craves.
Le Petit Chypre t. (Barrister & Mann) petitgrain, oakmoss, labdanum
Pungent, sour, and intriguing, this little chypre is a delight. With only three notes, it's a bit raw and bare boned, but it's all so nicely balanced that you don't feel like it's anything less than a complete fragrance. My little tub is four years old now. I'm babying it since it's not longer made. Sure wish I had picked up a couple more jars.
